Greetings!

I hope you are all enjoying the warmer weather that has finally arrived as much as I am! I'm about to take my daughter to her violin class, but before I do, I'd like to share with you some of the exciting new things happening at the Wardrobe Workshop.

This spring has indeed turned out to be one of growth and renewal for me. I think I've finally figured out how I should dress, and I have clients coming to me for help figuring out what they really want to look like. In fact, I can't tell you how often I've heard the same thing in the past couple months: "I love clothes but have no idea what to wear. I hate shopping and I find it so stressful getting dressed in the morning! Can you help?"

I sure can, whether it's helping clients figure it out, so they experience less stress every day -- and can reconnect with the joy they once took in getting dressed.

After taking a wonderful class for image consultants with Brenda Kinsel, I have lots of new tools in my toolbox, and I can't wait to share them with you. Give me a call or send me an email, and I'll be happy to explain to you what I'm doing differently now, and why clients find it so helpful. (And in the next few months, stay tuned for exciting Wardrobe Workshop events that can help you reconnect to the fun in fashion. In the meantime, enjoy the sunshine!

Best wishes,
Ketura

P.S. Maybe you've got a friend who is ready to make some changes; feel free to forward this newsletter to her by clinking on the link below.

Wardrobe clutter?
Here's one quick fix

Do you have a big mess in your closet, so you have to weed through evening dresses and pilled sweaters in July just to get dressed in the morning? You're not alone -- it's one of the complaints I hear the most often.

The most important fix is also fairly easy. One evening or during the weekend, take everything out of your closet that you won't wear during the current season. This time of year, that means removing most sweaters, jackets, coats and other pieces intended for cold weather.

I recommend that putting off sorting these out-of-season clothes and accessories until the weather changes again. (That's because it can be too overwhelming to sort through all your clothes at one time, so save your energy for getting your spring/summer wardrobe organized.) Launder or dry-clean everything that's dirty and put everything else in cardboard or plastic boxes (with cedar blocks) in your attic or basement or under your bed -- anywhere but your closet, unless you have a very large one. As for those souvenir jackets and evening dresses, you'll probably want to store them somewhere else besides your main closet area, too.

You'll see the benefit immediately: The only clothes you face in the morning will be those you might actually want to wear!

You asked ... about basics
Filling out your spring shopping list

Smitten cap sleeve u-neck sweater from Couture CandyI've heard from a few clients recently who, booking me for their next appointment, tell me they want to focus their shopping on finding basics. So now I'm figuring out where to take them.

And here's what I've decided. I think what people mean when they say "I need basics" is that they need pieces that cost a lot less than the special pieces they've been buying. Does everyone need a white (or ivory) tank top? Yes. But a little detail is fine, too. In fact, a draped top in jersey knit is just as versatile, and that's what we really mean when we say "basic." It's more interesting, too. (And yes, you can find them at a reasonable price.)

I think women are afraid they'll have some sort of fashion emergency that can only be cured by a simple T-shirt. But that's where a lovely draped jersey top comes in, or something like this sweater from Smitten at Couture Candy. It serves the same purpose as that beige button-down or shell, but you'll feel far more stylish. That's what my clients really want -- pieces they can turn to again and again, pairing them with other things they already own -- clothes they're confident will make them look great in the morning when grabbed from the closet and thrown on. And yes, personal style made easy really is basic, and it's my goal for myself and for all my clients.
The perfect fashion pastime
Online collages at Polyvore

"Blooming" at PolyvoreThis is the website I would have created if I'd thought of it. (Okay, and if I had any training or aptitude whatsoever for writing code.) It's Polyvore, and I can't believe I've lived a reasonably successful, happy life without it until now.

The site allows you to create and then "publish" a collage by choosing from hundreds, possibly thousands, of clothes (plus shoes, jewelry and other accessories). My first attempt, which I've shown here, got a little crazy and needs editing. (It's called "Blooming" -- you have to name your sets.) Oh, and did I mention that it's basically a shopping site? Each piece links to the store where you can buy it.

You could use this site to experiment with new silhouettes, colors and combinations before buying. I plan to use it to propose wardrobe capsules for clients each season, illustrate their shopping priorities, and help them plan for their vacations. (And it's also just really fun toexercise the creative part of your brain.) Take Polyvore for a whirl and let me know what you think!

Getting your groove back

Having trouble getting dressed in the morning? My clients uniformly complain that although they love clothes, they find shopping overwhelming if not downright distateful. You can imagine the result: They never have anything to wear!

Instead, imagine having the peace of mind that comes from getting dressed quickly and easily each morning -- and arriving at your destination to be greeted by compliments about how you look. Best of all: Feeling great about yourself inside and out.

And, my clients say, they no longer make costly mistakes buying things that don't flatter them or that they don't really like. (These days, that's more important than ever.)

When you're ready for the compliments and the confidence, give me a call. I'll do for you what I've done for my clients: make it easy to look great. Contact me for details: KeturaP at aol dot com or at 202.352.7120.

And don't forget to visit me at the Ladies Paradise, where I'll offer solutions to your style challenges, analyze current trends, and point you to great deals on stylish things of all kinds.
