A growing trend in relocation is the use of pre-decision tools such as financial cost assessments, spousal assistance, family counseling and pre-decision trips, etc.   These tools help both companies and employees make informed decisions on the viability of a relocation.

At the Midwest Relocation Conference held in Milwaukee this spring, Julie Isom from Allstate Insurance and Kathy Butler from Pella Windows talked about their requirement for a pre-decision conversation/assessment with prospective relocating employees.

For both companies, the pre-decision call does not intend to eliminate an employee from consideration but gives the company much needed information to help counsel the employee.  With the facts in hand, the company or relocation management company discusses the benefits available to the employee.  They also give the employee an opportunity to de-select themselves for the relocation assignment if they find it is too much of a financial or emotional burden for them.

A pre-decision call to your employee can provide you with valuable information, but having a cost estimate available prior to the commencement of the relocation is another great way to help prepare for success.  Imagine the benefits of knowing the potential cost prior to offering relocation benefits to an employee?

NRI clients will soon have access to an updated budget tool, SNAP, that will help estimate relocation expenses and highlight areas of concern for both the employee and company.

SNAP is designed to help:
  • Senior Executives - determine financial risk and return on investment
  • Human Resources - identify areas of concern (i.e. loss on sale, foreclosure, etc.) and control the process
  • Recruiters & Hiring Managers - obtain a comprehensive estimate prior to extending offers
  • Employees - understand significant company investment and personal cost
Reliable and convenient, SNAP ensures that you will be well informed and prepared for the next successful employee relocation.

NOTE:  Estimates are not guaranteed costs.   SNAP is a complimentary service for our clients.  If you desire a more comprehensive report with costs verified by appraisals, household goods estimates, broker price opinions, etc., a service fee will apply in addition to out of pocket expenses. The fee will be credited upon initiation of relocation services.

Closing Deadline for Homebuyers Credit Extended

(A Worldwide ERC Government Relations Bulletin dated 7/2/2010)

Congress has passed legislation extending the deadline to complete home purchases eligible for the homebuyer credit from June 30, 2010 to September 30, 2010. H.R. 5623 was sent to the President for signature on July 1, 2010. As a result, homebuyers who entered into binding contracts to purchase a home by the April 30, 2010 expiration of credit, but were unable to close on those purchases by the June 30 deadline, will have an extra 90 days to do so and receive the credit. The extension will assist those whose transactions faced closing difficulties due to loan approvals, short sales, and other issues. Relocation management companies (RMCs) whose sales of inventory homes to buyers eligible for the credit had faced such closing problems will now have extra time to effect the closings. Worldwide ERCŪ supported the National Association of Realtors and others in seeking the extension.
