Susan Greetings!

Good news, bad news, it seems that there is often two sides to every story.  The way news is presented or how much we prepare affects the severity of the emotion around the news.   Please read the following article for some suggestions on how we can try to ease the affects of a tough real estate market and check out other NRI happenings below.
                                              Sincerely,
                                                   Susan Bender

The Good News is:  It's a Buyers Market
The Bad News is:   It's a Buyers Market

For SaleIf you are a relocating employee trying to sell your home or a corporation trying to sell an inventory property a buyers market is bad news, if you are a relocating employee looking for a new home, it's good news.  So what can corporations and relocation management companies do to help transferring employees through this volatile market?

  • Set reasonable expectations with transferring employees.
  • Give specific market evidence to support appraised values.
  • Mandate use of approved agents and list price restrictions.
  • Don't wait until home comes into inventory to recondition or offer buyer and/or broker incentives.
  • Remind employees that a buyers market will benefit them in the new location.
Optimum results occur when the relocation services company, client and transferring employee work together to market the home from the very beginning of the process.  Offering incentives or reconditioning the property while the employee is still marketing, before the home is "market worn" may cost money up front, but has proven to save the corporation money in the long run and lead to quicker sales for employees.  Encouraging aggressive list prices by policy driven BMA to list price restrictions is also a helpful step in effective home marketing. In a tough real estate market, it is not only imperative to be priced right immediately when the home is put on the market but for the home to be in the best shape possible

Don't delay the inevitable!  And, don't forget to remind the employee that although their home may not be as valuable as it once was, they will have an opportunity to capitalize on a good buyers market in their new location.  Bad news...Good news!

Rebuilding TogetherNRI Lends a Helping Hand

Throughout the year NRI raises money to support Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit organization who's mission is to preserve affordable housing for those in need by bringing volunteers and communities together to rehabilitate the homes of low-income homeowners.

In May, several NRI employees got the opportunity to participate in the Rebuilding Together Work Day.  The project was a huge undertaking, an elderly couple plagued by diabetic blindness, a pulmonary aneurism and other ailments needed help from their community. Stacy Seeger, NRI V.P., Human Resources, recounts, "We all got inside and couldn't move.  There was so much stuff, dirt and dog hair, floor to ceiling that we had to move it out to the front lawn in order to get to the kitchen which also had to be emptied.  The orders were to pull up the old linoleum floor and replace it."  Besides major work in the kitchen, a new deck was being built, walls were scrubbed and garbage hauled.

It was an exhausting day but all in all "it was a very rewarding and humbling experience", admits Stacy.  The homeowners were so appreciative and couldn't believe, that people they didn't know, could be so kind and charitable to them.
