Partnering With Police Safety Program Set For Thursday April 26

A student safety and drug information program for Allen parents is set for Thursday, April 26, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lowery Freshman Center Cafeteria. "Parents Partnering with Police" is sponsored by Allen ISD and the Allen Police Department. The program will discuss a variety of topics including: student safety; bicycle safety; bus rider safety; Crime Stoppers; prescription drug awareness; youth drug abuse; and social networking awareness and safety. Parents also will have a chance to meet their School Resource Officers (SROs) at the free program.

Board of Trustees Election Early Voting Begins On April 30

Early voting begins on April 30 for the Allen ISD Board of Trustee elections. Election day is Saturday, May 12. All election-day voting will take place at the City of Allen Municipal Court Facility next to City Hall. Early voting sites are the Allen Municipal Court Facility and the Collin County Election Office. Click here for more election information.

 

Five candidates have filed for three openings on the Allen ISD Board of Trustees. Running unopposed for Place 1 on the Board of Trustees is Susan Olinger. Jayne Grimes, who is retiring from the Board in May, previously held Place 1. The two candidates for Place 2 on the Board are Carl Clemencich and Alan Hurst. The seat was previously held by Benny Bolin, who is retiring from the Board in May. The two candidates for Place 3 on the Board are incumbent Jason Shepard and Rona Zafari.

 

Citizens interested in meeting the candidates may attend the Allen Rotary Club School Board Candidate's Forum on Wednesday, May 9 at 12 noon at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Allen.

Board Seeking Suggestions For Naming Of New Elementary School 

The Board of Trustees is seeking nominations for the naming of a new elementary school. The school is located in the Village Park and Saddle Club at McKinney Ranch communities. Nomination letters may be emailed to publicinfo@allenisd.org or mailed to Public Information Office, P.O. Box 13, Allen, Texas 75013. Schools have traditionally been named after living individuals but nominations are welcome for any living or deceased individuals who have made notable contributions to the Allen community or American society.

Eagles To Open Football Season Against Carroll HS On August 31.

Construction on the new Eagle Stadium is on schedule.  The first game in the new stadium will be against Southlake Carroll High School on August 31.  A scrimmage game will be held at home on August 24 and a community open house - kickoff pep rally will be held on August 23. 

 

The deadline for renewing Allen Eagle varsity football game season tickets is June 11. Current season ticket holders may view their assignments in the new stadium either online or by visiting the stadium on April 26 or 28.  A lottery will be held to allocate the additional season tickets.  Click here for more information.

Performing Arts Center Schedule

Coming in May at the new Allen ISD Performing Arts Center will be the Allen HS Art Show on May 2; Encore Spring Concert on May 4-5; the Tallenette & Color Guard Showcase on May 18-19; and the combined performing arts concerts on May 21-25. Community Education Summer Camp Registration Underway

Online registration for Allen ISD's summer enrichment camps is now underway.  Over 125 week-long camps are being offered this summer at either Reed or Cheatham Elementary School from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. daily. PTA Councils Present Primary Election Candidate Forum

The Allen ISD and McKinney ISD Councils of PTAs have scheduled a candidates' forum for the 2012 primary elections for Monday, April 30, in the Collin High Education Center at 3452 Spur 299 in McKinney. A "meet-and-greet" with the candidates begins at 6:30 p.m. The forum starts at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. Candidates represented will be running for Texas Senate District 8, State Board of Education, Texas House of Representations District 67, 70 and 89.
