 The starter packets for just.good.food.,
a mission project of the synods of Lakes and Prairies, Lincoln Trails and Mid-America, went in the mail earlier this month to congregations and other organizations who have expressed an interest in participating in the project's pilot year. About 40 congregations across the three synods are on the list of participants.
The project, described in the materials as a way to "collaborate with local organizations by growing and distributing food to those who do not have enough," grew out of a passion to address poverty and lack of nutritious, and the movement around sustainable, organic food and community building.
After receiving the initial mailing from just.god.food., Heather Crews of First Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso, Ind., wrote, "I must say I am extremely excited to have a hand in bringing this project to my congregation. Loving our neighbor by helping to care for one another in every aspect of life is what we are all called by God to do. My church has been doing a good job of showing this love, but I knew that we could do better. The curriculum and materials that encompass the just.good.food program are a huge step in the right direction."
She added, "By getting back to the basics and working to provide those in our community with a vital, life-sustaining element - food - we will become the Word of God in action. I cannot wait to get started."
It's not too late to get started. Requests for additional information and the starter packets can be made to Sarah Moore-Nokes, associate executive presbyter in Winnebago Presbytery, at sarah@winnebagopresbytery.org.

Discover a Season of Peace
An Introduction and Invitation
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19
Jesus call us to be peacemakers.
We see this every day as we expereience our world's need for Christ's reconciling love, peace, and justice. We feel this as we long to know God's peace in our hearts and relationships. The promise of Jesus "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9) is both a comfort and a challenge. It reminds us that the path of peace is something we both follow and forge. More...
