Commissioned Ruling Elder Continuing Education

An Urgent Message - Preparing for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany, November 5, 2011

Join us for the last workshop in our 2011 series for commissioned ruling elders. The workshop will focus on the gospel lessons for the coming seasons of Advent, Christmas and Ephiphany, special worship opportunities, demonstrations and analysis of different types of sermons, special worship resources and some small group interaction.

Deadline to register for the November 5 workshop is Friday, October 28. Cost is $35, which includes lunch, a take-home packet with worship ideas, the lectionary texts for the season and a variety of other resources.

Workshops are led by the Rev. Dr. Laura Reason, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Highland, Ind. Dr. Reason is a seven-time teacher of preaching and worship leadership to Synod of Lincoln Trails lay pastors. Workshops are held at Philo (Ill.) Presbyterian Church, just outside Champaign/Urbana. Every workshop in the series is unique, so first-time attendees and past attendees alike will find this a helpful learning experience.

PC(USA) logoStudy Shows Increase in Presbyterian Multifaith Connections

Since 9/11, number of Presbyterian churches engaged with other faith groups has increased 50 percent

In the ten years since the September 11 attacks exposed fissures in America's patchwork quilt of religions, the number of Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregations involved in activities with other faiths has increased 50 percent. One-quarter of congregations, up from 16 percent, are now involved.

In this regard, PC(USA) congregations' activities parallel those of U.S. religious congregations across the faith spectrum. The number of U.S. congregations participating in multifaith activities also doubled in ten years, going from 14 percent in 2000 to 27 percent in 2010.
