Abundant Blessings to You This Thanksgiving Season
BUV EventCrawfordsville Churches Join to Help Congo

by John C. Van Nuys, Pastor, Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church

Six downtown churches in Crawfordsville, Ind., combined their efforts recently to send a basic utility vehicle (BUV) to Congo. Organized by Anne Bost, Sheridan Hadley, and Michael Thissen of Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, the six churches gathered for African singing, games, food, and fellowship on Oct. 31.

BUV EventThe goal was to raise $5,000 to send a BUV to Congo to support Congo Helping Hands, an Indianapolis-based not-for-profit organization run by Woody Collins, who is a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis. Woody hopes to use the BUV, an all-terrain vehicle designed specifically for the third world, to haul well-drilling equipment to rainforest villages to provide a fresh water well for each. One in eight Congolese children dies before their fifth birthday due to mostly preventable diseases, many of which are water-borne.

BUV EventThe Oct. 31 event was so successful that $6,600 was raised, thanks to God working through the unity of different churches as the one body of Christ.  For more information on Congo Helping Hands go to www.congohelpinghands.org and to learn about the amazing BUV to organize your own event go to www.drivebuv.org.
