"Smaller churches can serve the larger community by filling a need that's not being met," Mick Saunders told a gathering in Angola, Ind., earlier this month.
He was participating in a panel discussion at the Wee Kirk conference, sharing stories of what small churches can do in their communities and beyond. Trinity collects and distributes gently used and new shoes for people who need them.
Wee Kirk is a ministry of Presbyterians for Renewal, designed especially to support small Presbyterian churches. The Synod of Lincoln Trails is a supporter of Wee Kirk. The conferences, a series of five held in various regions of the country, were held during October.

Blogs, or online web journals, offer pastors new opportunities to reach their communities and beyond. We are looking for a group of pastors who are interested in participating in a mutually written and edited blog. Robert Shaw, pastor at Christ Presbyterian Church, Winfield, Ind., and author of a weekly blog, would like to organize a group blog that features reflections on the Daily Lectionary. Participants would be responsible for writing one day a week and would submit their reflections to the group in advance, allowing time for the group to read and comment before the posting date. Training and technical support will be available. Interested? Contact Robert Shaw, pastor@yourcpc.net. View his blog at robertsmusings.wordpress.com.

PC(USA) Offers Internship for Public Witness
The Office of Public Witness of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) recently unveiled its internship for Public Witness, a new program designed for the formation of servant leaders in public policy ministry. People who participate in the internship program will enjoy exposure to a wide range of formative experiences.
The office is also seeking to partner with local churches that will share with them the benefits and responsibilities of providing opportunities for servant leadership. In such an arrangement, interns will serve in both ministries and both the church and the office will work with the intern to develop learning goals and responsibilities. Churches may also choose to sponsor an intern of their choice.
Interested applicants may download the complete description here. Churches, colleges, universities and seminaries interested in exploring this relationship may contact Leslie Woods by email or phone at (202) 543-1126. |
