18 Committees Will Consider Business of 219th General Assembly

219th General AssemblySelection of committee leadership is complete for the 18 assembly committees of the upcoming 219th General Assembly (2010) in Minneapolis, July 3-10.

Each committee will have a moderator and vice-moderator, chosen from among the 712 elected commissioners to the assembly. The Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow, moderator of the 218th General Assembly (2008), selected them with the assistance of other denominational leaders.

Each committee will have a committee assistant and a parliamentarian, chosen for their expertise and experience with previous General Assemblies, to aid the elected committee leaders. Complete committee leadership list

Five attendees from the Synod of Lincoln Trails are moderators, assistants or parliamentarians:
  • Church Growth, Christian Education, and Presbyterian Investment and Loan Program Assistant: the Rev. Rebecca Kirkpatrick (Wabash Valley Presbytery)
  • Civil Union and Marriage Issues Assistant: the Rev. Carol McDonald (Wabash Valley Presbytery). McDonald is synod co-executive.
  • Health Issues Moderator: Elder Ann Kelson (Great Rivers Presbytery)
  • Middle Governing Body Issues Moderator: the Rev. Cliff Lyda (Chicago Presbytery)
  • Mission Coordination Parliamentarian: the Rev. Barbara Bundick (Chicago Presbytery)

Synod Committee Will Recommend
New Timetable for Staff Reconfiguration

The Rev. Eddie Knox, synod moderator, and the Rev. Laura Reason, pro-tem moderator of the synod personnel committee, have sent a letter to synod commissioners, informing them of the committee's intention to propose changes to a previously adopted plan to reduce the synod executive position from two to one full-time position.

The letter says, "...we concluded it would be more prudent for us to ease our pace to allow us to incorporate whatever actions might come from this summer's GA about synods and to give us time to gather input from the stakeholders in any discussion about the future ministry of the synod.  We need to know how we will be configured before we can plan for leadership changes." Read the entire letter

The next synod meeting will be July 24 at Philo (Ill.) Presbyterian Church.
