National Denomination Meets This Week;
Elects San Francisco NCD Pastor as Moderator

The 218th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has been meeting this week in San Juan, Cal.

Last Saturday, commissioners elected the Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow, 38, pastor of San Francisco's Mission Bay Community Church and a leader in the "emergent church" movement as moderator. Today, commissioners will elect a new stated clerk.

A Word from the Leadership Forum

We: in recognizing the need for healthy leadership in the church in changing times are committed to networking with clergy and lay leaders as together we gain new understandings of leadership and promote healthy styles of personal leadership within vital congregations.  This is a lifelong process.

by Bill Lawser, Leadership Forum Team Leader

In the spring of '07 and again this spring, the Leadership Forum has sponsored 24-hour leadership events for clergy and commissioned lay pastors in active service.

These events, focusing in '07 on The Energized Exhausted Leader and in '08 on The Authentic Transparent Leader, have been but one way to provide opportunities to promote healthy styles of personal leadership within the congregations of the Synod of Lincoln Trails.

The Leadership Forum is but one partner in the synod's mission to support leaders in partnership with the presbyteries and congregations, helping to connect leaders to one another to create fertile ground (something we in Illinois and Indiana know about) for each of us to be accountable and responsible for our own ongoing growth as leaders.

Those who attended the events have commented about how great the short time frame was, focused time away, Bible study with peers, presented topics as jump starters for further study, and the four identical events provided locations closer to places of service.
The Leadership Forum organizing team wants to be in touch with learning groups you are forming so that we can help you connect with one another as this lifelong process of being healthy leaders in vital congregations continues.   You can contact the team by emailing the synod office. Please put Leadership Forum in the subject line.

The current organizing team is John Koppitch, Indianapolis, Ind.; Laura Shepherd, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Janice West, Carbondale, Ill.; David Smazik, Rockford, Ill.; Bill Lawser, Savoy, Ill., Team Leader.
