Synod to Offer Peacemaking Grants
A Word From the Leadership Development Committee

Laura Reason, Vice Moderatorby Nicholas Shargo, Committee Moderator

The synod's Standing Committee on Leadership Development took action at the April 18 synod meeting to approve for the issuance of Peacemaking Grants during the 2008 calendar year.

The grants are intended to provide assistance to churches and/or presbytery entities sponsoring a peacemaking project which intends to share God's healing and peace,  building a culture of peace and nonviolence for all God's creation. Programs can cover a myriad of initiatives, including worship, Bible study, local ministries and global studies.

The grants replace the synod's previous Prophetic Action Grant program. They will be offered in 2008 only, using funds currently available in the Prophetic Action Grant budget line item. Presbyteries will be advised to keep funds collected from the Peacemaking Offering for their own future use and distribution.

Grant requirements and application material are posted on the synod's website. The deadline for submitting applications is July 9, 2008. The maximum grant amount is $3,000 per grantee.
