Greetings!
Welcome to the June issue of The BUZZ.
NADRA Headquarters has been taking some time during your busy season to reach out to current and new benefit providers to find ways to help our members. Please take some time to read through the new benefit highlighted below.
NADRA is only as strong as its members that support us.
We are here for you. Your industry has a voice, NADRA IS that voice but we need your support. If you have questions, concerns, comments we want to know! Pass them along to: Info@NADRA.org.

From The Deck of The President

Wow! Does anybody else wonder where this year is going? Here we find ourselves in the middle of summer and picking up speed. We are certainly still seeing a wide range of business in the different areas of the country...one week so busy you can't possibly get it all finished and the next calling the phone company for a line check! I have heard many different ways that companies are getting thru this year but the one main theme has been "working hard and doing more". In some ways it is really nice to get back to the basics of business (providing good service and working for the sale) but I just wish it would have been a little more subtle transition!
Here at the NADRA office things are crazy just like they are for you. So many things always happening that it is hard to share them all. The web site www.nadra.org is a must use tool for you to keep track of all the happenings and events. Be sure to read the article below on the award recently given to the Deck for a Soldier. Also, DeckExpo and our annual meeting are coming up fast. It is time to make your plans and find new ways to help your business.
There are so many ways that NADRA can help your business and the industry but it all starts with you. What are you doing to help promote the association? Have you joined your local chapter or looked into forming one? Have you looked at helping out on one of our committees? (What a great thing to tell your customers...I am on a xyz committee helping the industry) Do you advertise and tell your customers that you belong to NADRA? When consumers realize that there is a professional association of Deck Builders and you are a member it gives them more confidence in your abilities and lets them know you are a committed professional. Have you set up your link on the web site so customers in your area can find you and you can receive leads? I hear some people say they are not getting anything from the association only to find out they have not done anything themselves. There are so many services available but you have to take advantage of them it won't happen by itself. We are more than happy to help and answer questions give us a call or email me shawn@nadra.org We want you to prosper!
Happy selling

NADRA Honors Builder Member, O'Noonan Construction for Pink Ribbon Project :
O'Noonan Construction is now in its second year as a member of NADRA. Many of you reading this have participated in NADRA's Deck For a Soldier projects, or have read about them. Like you, Patrick Noonan, owner of O'Noonan Construction believes in giving back. While on the phone with Pat a few months back we asked him how business was going. He mentioned he and his wife Julie, were busy with their own special project. We asked Pat to keep NADRA HQ in the loop during this project. It is with great honor we pass on to you Pat's story about "The House That Hope Built."
"Being a member of NADRA gives us the step up on the competition before we even step in the door. I remember reading some of the articles on "deck for a soldier" while I was planning this project and being inspired by them"
~Patrick Noonan, O'Noonan Construction
Pat Noonans Story:
Watch Twin Cities Live Segment Here
When I first met with Amy and Harry to begin discussing the plans for their remodel, I walked away with the feeling that I would get this job, that I wanted this job. Call it optimism, call it 17 years of builder's instinct and hundreds of client meetings, or just call it a personal connection, but my gut told me that I was going to get this job.
I will never forget the day Amy told me of her diagnosis. Though I had only had a few hours of interaction with her, it affected me on a very personal level. It had nothing to do with business or with the loss of a potential project. It had to do with the past experience of watching my Mother battle breast cancer, with having two kids about the same age as Amy's and with feeling like this could be my wife. I told her that it wasn't the last page, that it was a curable diagnosis and that when she beat cancer we would pick up where we left off.
A month later my phone rang. It was Amy, calling from her chemo chair. She told me she was not going to let cancer dictate her life. She was going to beat this and wanted to come home to a new house and a new life. I was humbled. I knew I had to make this project happen and I was determined to make a difference: not for my business, but for Amy and her family.
I picked up the phone and started calling my subcontractors and suppliers. I thought it was futile; in this economy, who would be willing to cut their prices and help someone they never met? That was when my faith in the inherent good in people was restored. Across the board, people started to help. The project began to gain momentum and we even started adding to the scope of the remodel. Six months later, I was able to give Amy and Harry the keys to their new home. Without a doubt, it was the proudest moment of my career. Without the help of everyone involved, this project would never have broken ground and certainly would never have been what it is. Thank you for your time to tour and support this project and cause.
