 This program will provide a better understanding of what may cause a deck to fail and what a code compliant deck looks like. The International Residential Code and International Building Code have requirements for post and column supports, post-to-beam connections, bearing requirements for joists, stair treads, stringers and port-to guardrail connection requirements. This program will review the standards and methods used to satisfy those requirements. Also, we will review what causes corrosion of metal connectors and fasteners, and Simpson Strong-Tie guidelines when selecting the proper connector and fastener.
Objectives: After successfully completing this course you will be able to:
- Identify common causes of deck failures
- Put into practice standards and methods of code compliant connections
- Choose fasteners and connectors for specific applications
NADRA Certification Course: Upon successfully passing the test offered at the end of this course, NADRA and ASHI members will receive a certificate good for a period of three years for Deck Framing Connections as taught by Simpson Strong-Tie. All attendees will receive a certificate of completion.
