AWP Code Book Available NOW
American Wood Council (AWC) Offers Free Deck Design Guide
Part of the AWC's Design for Code Acceptance series, the guide provides details, span tables, guardrail requirements and other provisions for constructing a residential deck in accordance with the International Residential Code.
The guide also contains recommended good practices for deck construction that are not specifically code requirements. The guide is limited to single-story decks and does not address wind and seismic loads, snow loads or unique loads such as hot tubs.
NADRA Member BASF has been elected to membership in the Treated Wood Council (TWC). The TWC has 349 member companies. It works for the treated wood industry on legislative and code issues. Ken Trainor, NADRA board member, has been attending TWC meetings to keep up on government regulation and agency changes that affect treated lumber.

The KISS
Got your attention? Well its not what you think.
KISS stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid!
Its just an acronym used in marketing and public relations to remind communicators to keep their written and verbal messages straightforward and concise - in other words, to KISS!
How many times as a kid did you end up laughing so hard that it hurt at the end of a game of "telephone"? The message spoken by the last person was always something completely different than what was whispered into the ear of the first person in line. Well, nothing much has changed since then except the technology.
Good communication is hard enough all by itself. If you want to be understood you must KISS!
Suggestion for written communication: have someone read your message and then tell you what they think it says. This is an especially good idea if it is a communication you intend to go out to a lot of people - or one that involves a significant amount of money.
Suggestion for spoken communication: Put the brakes on your motor-mouth. We speak more clearly and get our ideas across much better when we give the victim (person in front of us or on the phone) the time to catch up. The listener will also take you more seriously since you are making a point of giving them time and attention.
So, try the KISS with your employees, your family, your waiter, and don't forget your mechanic! You will find that your listeners and readers get more of what you want them to understand.
