Uptown Dream Cafe Gets Jazzy
SkybellWe love to use the phrase "the musical stylings of" so we are thrilled to announce that starting Wednesday, December 1, and continuing through the end of the month, the Uptown Dream Cafe will feature the musical stylings of Melani Skybell.

What makes this even better is that Melani will play her unique traditional jazz with her own flair on our Winey Wednesday, which means you can enjoy her stylings to the beautiful music of 1/2 price wine, beer and cocktails. What could be better?

Well, if you consider that we've also recently introduced new  specials that make dinner at the Dream Cafe that much more special, you've got quite a night on your hands. And by that, we mean jazz hands, of course.
Get to Know Your Dream Cafe Servers
Dream Cafe Servers in Live Performances
We try to be fair here in the Dream Journal editorial offices. So when it came to deciding who would be profiled this month, we couldn't single one server out. There are several who are pursuing acting careers, and with the holidays upon us, they are hitting the boards in various productions. Here's a rundown for your live performance attendance pleasure:
Christmas Plays
If you read last month's newsletter, you know that Addison Dream Cafe server Ivan Jasso is performing in Dallas Children's Theater's production of "Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!" based on the popular children's book series. The play runs from November 19 - December 23 at the DCT Rosewood Center, Baker Theater.

Also, Uptown Dream Cafe server Alexandra Valle is appearing in The Drowsy Chaperone at Theatre 3 right around the corner from the Dream Cafe. The show runs from December 2 - January 9. In it, a high-spirited show magically bursts to life in the living room of a die hard musical fan. Featuring thrills, surprises, tap dancing and tons of laughs.

Another Uptown server, Ivan Jones, is appearing in Babes in the Wood at Cox Building Playhouse in Plano from December 3 - 23. The play is a production of Theatre Britain, which specializes in productions by British Playwrights. Babes In The Wood is a fairytale told in the style of a melodrama. The audience is invited to cheer the good guys, boo and hiss the villains and sing along with the characters on stage.

Do try to catch their performances. We'll get around to more detailed profiles about each one of them (except Mr. Jasso, he's already had his day in the sun) in future newsletters, so stay tuned!

History Lesson
Who is John?
No, this is not an Atlas Shrugged article. Many people wonder where the various names on our menu come from. Recently, we had a rash of "who is John?" questions. As in, the "One for John" - our delicious mushroom and rice patty vegetarian burger.

We had to go to owner Mary O'Brien to find out. Her brother John used to be a vegetarian and she needed something on the menu for him to be able to properly enjoy the Dream Cafe. So she introduced "One for John." And yes, we said "used to be." John is no longer a vegetarian, but that phase of his life produced a great legacy for vegetarians across the Metroplex in his namesake burger.
