HHRF's First Funded Project Moving Toward Publication
A Washington University research team, supported by a $50,000 grant from HHRF, has completed data gathering and is now finalizing analysis and statistics of their year-long project. "The exciting results are that the changes we saw in the pilot study and which I earlier reported to you still hold. The kids make the change in trunk and head stability after hippotherapy and the change sticks," reports lead research er Tim Shurtleff.
"We are [also] finding very interesting Upper Extremity results...We are finding statistical links between the trunk stability results and the UE results that support our hypothesis that the improved stability of the trunk may lead to improved upper extremity function," he adds.
Mr. Shurtleff recently reported these results at the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Conference in Richmond, VA, and plans to start on an article for publication.
See the team's research updates, their winning proposal and more here.

The primary goal is to support, promote and fund scientific research that explores the claimed, yet unsubstantiated benefits of equine assisted activities and therapies, leading to the discovery of the most effective methods and techniques for conducting thousands of existing and future programs.
The secondary goal is to educate the public (including parents, donors, insurance companies and physicians) on research findings so that equine assisted activities become more accessible to those in need.
We need your support to continue funding the highest quality research possible. Please consider making a donation to HHRF today. The generous matching gift opportunity is still in place, so every dollar donated is worth double that amount! | |
