Pat Mullins Joins Advisory Council
HHRF welcomes Pat Mullins to the Advisory Council. Pat (pictured at left as a 'test dummy' for HHRF's most recently funded research project) is the Director of Association Development for Markel Insurance Company, where he has designed insurance programs for a number of equine-specialized programs. Pat currently serves as President of the Certified Horsemanship Association and is Past President of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association and the Virginia Horse Council. He is also Vice Chair of the American Horse Council's State Horse Council Committee and the Past Vice Chair of the Virginia Horse Center. HHRF to Participate in National Workshop
December 7 Workshop on Animal Assisted Programs for Youth At Risk
On December 6-7, 2007, The Humane Society of the United States and the Center for Prevention of Youth Violence of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health will hold a National Technology Assessment Workshop on Animal Assisted Programs for Youth-At-Risk.
KC Henry, HHRF's Executive Director, will serve as a co-facilitator for the Evaluation and Research Best Practices Discussion during the Workshop. The purpose of the best practices discussion sessions is to provide conference participants with an opportunity to share experiences with colleagues about what works in animal assisted programs for youth at risk and to document these recommendations in four areas: Program Content and Participant Selection, Program Management, Staffing, and Training, Building Support, and Evaluation and Research.
By bringing together researchers, program leaders, and animal shelters, the conference seeks to enhance the field of animal assisted interventions for emotionally-troubled, atrisk, and adjudicated youth through evaluation research and development and dissemination of best practices. |

The primary goal is to support, promote and fund scientific research that explores the claimed, yet unsubstantiated benefits of equine assisted activities and therapies, leading to the discovery of the most effective methods and techniques for conducting thousands of existing and future programs.
The secondary goal is to educate the public (including parents, donors, insurance companies and physicians) on research findings so that equine assisted activities become more accessible to those in need.
We need your support to continue funding the highest quality research possible. Please consider making a donation to HHRF today. The generous matching gift opportunity is still in place, so every dollar donated is worth double that amount! | |
