Wellcome Trust-EPSRC MEDICAL ENGINEERING INITIATIVE
Promoting integrated interdisciplinary research

A 45 million  strategic partnership between the  Wellcome Trust and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council(EPSRC) aims to simulate the formation and support of centres of excellence for multidisciplinary research in medical engineering pursuing exploratory programmes and product development.
We seek preliminary application from institutions, or consortia of institutions, within the UK, wishing to conduct discovery or development projects that integrate Physical, engineering, chemical, mathematical or computational sciences with clinical or biological research.
Preliminary applications should be submitted by 30 May 2008.Full applications, if invited, will be required by 28 September 2008. Decisions will be made in February 2009.

Securing funding for unproven ideas presents a major challenge for independent junior scientists.

A maximum of 5 awards will be granted each year. The awards will provide $450,000
in direct costs over three years.

BIOMARKERS
Calls for Proposals

The MRC aims to commit up to £10 million in a call for proposals for the development and evaluation of biomarkers as part of its initiatives to target bottlenecks in translation. This MRC led initiative is a key part of the MRC-NIHR strategies for Health Research.

The primary objective should be to select, evaluate and qualify a biomarker (or discrete panel of biomarkers) as an indicator of a normal biological process, pathogenic process, or pharmacologic response to therapeutic intervention. Any suitable technological approach will be considered.
The deadline for applications is 4pm, Tuesday 17th June 2008

Singapore Translational Research (STaR) Investigatorship Awards

The STaR Investigatorship Award is a prestigious award, jointly offered by the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) of Singapore's Health Ministry and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), to recognise and support investigators with outstanding qualifications in translational and clinical research.

HHT FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL:  REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
                     Research Program:  Mechanisms of Disease in HHT
Description
The HHT Foundation's goal is to stimulate and sponsor research into the diagnosis, mechanisms, treatment and cure of Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT).  There is currently little effective therapy available for many aspects of HHT.  The HHT Foundation International would like to sponsor research leading to a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms of disease in HHT, with the ultimate goal of developing novel therapies for HHT.
Funds Available
Grants may be awarded for one or two years, up to a maximum of $50,000 US.
