Building the Next Generation HR Line Partnerships
Strategic partnershipsResearch Conducted by the Corporate Leadership Council

Globalisation, growing operational complexity, scarcity of talent, an aging workforce, and greater workforce mobility have thrust HR into the forefront of organisations' business challenges. Concurrently, HR's traditional role as a transactional service provider has been reduced by new technologies and outsourcing.

This Corporate Leadership Council research identifies the HR Business Partner (HRBP), and specifically the strategic partner role of the HRBP job, as the key to effective HR support to line management. This brief outlines the activities and enablers that maximise HRBPs' strategic effectiveness and business impact.

Economic Downturn Impacts Talent Management Strategies
intelligenceBersin & Associates Research

Today's slowing economy has created a new set of pragmatic priorities for corporate talent.

Within corporate HR and training, budget cuts are common. Organisations are still focused heavily on the implementation of new leadership development and talent management programs - but many of these initiatives have been slowed by the need to reduce the size of HR and restructure the team. Corporate training dropped by 11 percent in 2008, and is being dramatically rationalised to save money on travel, personnel and external contractors.

Today's business and HR leaders must be able to balance these pragmatic realities with long-term strategies and stay laser focused on their organisation's rapidly changing business priorities. Organisations must now implement the urgent programs of today, restructure and realign HR and L&D, and simultaneously continue their evolutions toward integrated talent solutions.
