Centered Leadership: How Talented Women Thrive
McKinsey Research
leader Women start careers in business and other professions with the same level of intelligence, education, and commitment as men. Yet comparatively few reach the top echelons.

This gap matters not only because the familiar glass ceiling is unfair, but also because the world has an increasingly urgent need for more leaders. All men and women with the brains, the desire, and the perseverance to lead should be encouraged to fulfill their potential and leave their mark.

With all this in mind, the McKinsey Leadership Project - an initiative to help professional women - set out four years ago to learn what drives and sustains successful female leaders. The study interviewed more than 85 successful women about what leadership requires. These leaders, although from a broad range of backgrounds, are unified in their desire to create positive change in the world. Over the past four years, the McKinsey Leadership Project has been blending the advice from these interviews with additional research and the elements of positive psychology (the study of living a more fulfilling life and cultivating talent).

Sales 2.0: Exploring Paradigm Shifts in Web Technologies, Sales Performance and Learning
by Sharon Vipond Ph.D & Peter T. Dunn - Intrepid Learning Solutions
sales 2.0So much has been written about "everything 2.0", yet with little real discussion of what Sales 2.0 and Learning 2.0 really mean for sales leaders and the learning professionals who provide essential training for their sales teams.

Sales 2.0 is a seismic shift in sales today that is rapidly changing the role of both the sales manager and the individual sales rep. From the way sales people work, the technologies available to them, and their processes, all aspects of selling are undergoing dramatic changes. Sales 2.0 also has major implications for learning and knowledge transfer within the Learning 2.0 paradigm, and deeply affects the future direction of both sales training and the entire enterprise learning function.

There is probably nothing more important to the future success than understanding the implications, problems, and potential of the major paradigm shift taking place from the increasingly outdated Sales 1.0 solution selling model to the Internet-enabled and customer-centric Sales 2.0, together with the evolutionary Learning 2.0 challenges that accompany it.

Enterprise Learning, Recruiting and Talent Management 2009
Bersin & Associates Research

crystal ballMajor global issues are having an impact on almost all of us, and HR and Learning Managers need to stay on top of the trends to bring value to their organisations.

Bersin & Associates have recently published their Enterprise Learning, Recruiting and Talent Management 2009: Predictions for the Coming Year.

Three of the top ten trends are a direct response to the global economic forces we are all experiencing. These include:

    * Budget Cuts Force Restructuring of HR and L&D

    * Succession Management Emerges as a Critical Issue - Bersin's research shows that most companies have not yet instituted a complete succession process covering critical roles, and many still lack formal executive succession planning.

    * The LMS Market Continues to Grow and Shift in Focus -  The SaaS delivery model has made it easy for companies of any size to implement an LMS. Organisations, many of whom are veterans with various LMS approaches, now are looking for robust portal-based architecture and integrated talent management functionality.
