Aquatic Section Training Retreat
This training offered bi-annually at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound Washington.  Members $185/Non-members $225.  Daily rates and CEU's also available.  Featured speakers include Jim Wheeler, Chris Nunes, Karen & Kevin Johnston.  More/Register
WRPA Executive Board Meeting 
The next meeting of the WRPA Executive Board is Friday, September 16 from 10am-2pm at the Tukwila Community Center.  Agenda items include discussion of a draft WRPA legislative agenda for 2012; decision on a policy regarding use of member contact information; updates on progress of our strategic plan action items and more.   Visit our WRPA board meeting web page to learn more about upcoming WRPA board meetings.

 

Jon Jarvis Announced as WWRC Breakfast Speaker 
National State Parks Director, Jon Jarvis, has been announced as the breakfast speaker for this popular fundraiser.  Join over 600 conservation, business and elected leaders to celebrate the Washington Wildlife & Recreation Coalition's successful campaigns to protect parks, wildlife and working farms. There is no charge to attend, but a donation will be requested during the program.  Friday, September 16, 2011 from 07:30 AM to 09:00 AM - Seattle Westin, 1900 5th Ave.  More

USA Weekend magazine features Auburn as one of the most playful cities!!!
Auburn, Wash., (pop. 70,180): Fun for everyone.  Number of public play spaces: 90. Why it made the list: The community rallied and raised $310,000 to help build a 32,000-square-foot Discovery Playground, which opened last June.  Submitted by: Julie Brewer, Arts & Events Manager, Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation  More

PRORAGIS is a national database that allows park and recreation agencies to benchmark with others, create budgets and plans with the press of a button and enhance their overall community operations and services.  Let's get Washington State in the system.  A great place to start is by reviewing the survey questions in the PRORAGIS profile.
Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI)
November 9-11, 2011, Bellevue WA:  This course is a must for staff from park and recreation agencies, school districts, child care facilities, health departments, landscape architecture firms, playground manufacturers, installers or contractors, insurance firms and others responsible for play equipment areas or playgrounds.  Help our children by designing, installing, and maintaining safe playgrounds.  More
