STATE PARKS HIT HARD BY BUDGET CUTS
Recently, the CBS Early Show aired a 4-minute segment on the issue titled, "State Parks Hit Hard by Budget Cuts," discussing the implications that cutbacks and closures will have for visitors, park facilities and maintenance, and local economies now and in the future.  Washington State Parks was the primary focus and NRPA CEO Barbara Tulipane was interviewed at the national headquarters in Ashburn, Va.-providing statistics and a great sound bite used in the final segment.  View the story online
WRPA LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

CERTIFIED PLAYGROUND SAFETY INSPECTOR CLASSES NOW OPEN

Covington Parks and Recreation Director Scott Thomas explains his vision for a community park to US Congressman Dave Reichert (R-Auburn). WWRC coalition leaders joined Congressman Dave Reichert, King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn, and Covington Mayor Margaret Harto on a tour of Covington Community Park, a WWRP grant recipient and a finalist for the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund grant program.  More 

 

Seattle Parks and Recreation Acting Superintendent Christopher Williams was recently selected to receive a National R.O.S.E. (Recognition of Significant Efforts) Award by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).  NRPA will present the award publicly at a special reception at the association's 2011 Congress & Exposition in Atlanta, Ga., on Nov. 2, 2011.  More

CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN - free training

August 23-25, 2011 - Spokane WA.  This training is highly recommended this for maintenance workers, park planners and directors of organizations without a dedicated park planner or maintenance manager.  As it is being sponsored by the United States Federal Government, there is no registration cost to the student.  More 

  

The Basic CPTED course covers the theory behind CPTED and give an overview of the history of crime and the physical environment; the basics of CPTED principles and how they work; applying successful applications and techniques of CPTED to specific crimes; how to consider CPTED principles in plans to secure key public places and facilities; and how to conduct a community safety assessment using CPTED principles.
