FINAL WRPA LEGISLATIVE REPORT FOR 2011
The 2011 Regular Session and the 30-day Special Session will go down as extremely productive ones for the WRPA.  We worked with a coalition on a successful effort to preserve Washington Wildlife, Recreation and Parks program (WWRP) funding - and the integrity of the WWRP list was preserved in the end.  The Legislature also:  Enacted a bill to keep state parks and state resource lands open; restored other capital program funding that is key to recreation; approved a "Complete Streets" program in the transportation budget; provided 5 ½-year window of flexibility in how local Real Estate Excise Tax (REET) revenues may be used; passed a bill that will protect the confidentiality of parks and recreation records related to youths who participate in our programs; and OK'd a Transportation Budget that includes nearly $29 million for the Safe Routes to School and Bicycle-Pedestrian Safety grant programs.  See full report

MANUFACTURERS VOLUNTARILY RECALL POOL AND IN-GROUND SPA DRAIN COVERS

Pool owners and operators who have one of the recalled drain covers should contact the manufacturer to receive a replacement or retrofit. CPSC recommends closing the pool until the drain cover is replaced.  Dual main drain and gravity drainage systems, unless they are wading pools or in-ground spas, do not need to be immediately closed. More

MEETING WITH DOR TO DISCUSS "LEAGUE FEES"

Please consider this a formal invite and notice regarding an upcoming meeting with the Department of Revenue (DOR) regarding the "league fees" issue - in the wake of the Legislature's decision NOT to act on a sales tax clarification bill (SSB 5422).  This is an issue where, in the absence of legislative clarification that this is NOT subject to sales tax, the DOR will now proceed as if it is.

Thursday June 16, 2011 at 10am on the 4th floor at the DOR, 1025 Union Ave SE, Olympia WA 98501.  Please rsvp to Brit Kramer at britk@wrpatoday.org and identify if you plan to attend "in person" or "call in" so that we can get a preliminary count for the meeting.  More
