2011 WRPA AWARDS - Call for nominations
The Washington Recreation & Park Association has established seven awards to recognize organizations and individuals (volunteers and professionals) for their contributions to the Park and Recreation field.  In addition WRPA offers a spectrum of Spotlight Awards to recognize excellence in park and recreation projects, services and media.  The 2011 WRPA Awards Banquet was held on Thursday April 28, 2011 at the Wenatchee Convention Center, Wenatchee, WA.  More

Adrienne Caver-Hall, Seattle, WA is the new chair of the Ethnic Minority Society (EMS) of the National Park & Recreation Association.  She was sworn into office on Thursday October 28th in Minneapolis MN, during the regular business meeting and luncheon of the EMS.  Congratulations Adrienne!

CALL FOR SESSIONS - 2011 NRPA CONGRESS & EXPOSITION IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA
National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the 2011 NRPA Congress Program Committee would like to invite all interested speakers to submit education session proposals for the 2011 Congress & Exposition to be held November 1-4, 2011 in Atlanta, GA. The proposal deadline is Friday, November 19, 2010.  More
VOLUNTEER NEEDED TO HELP WITH CONSERVATION PROGRAM & Trail Programs

The state Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) is looking for a volunteer to serve on its Land and Water Conservation Fund advisory committee. This committee evaluates grant applications for projects that preserve and develop outdoor recreation areas including parks, trails, and wildlife lands. Members also assist with program policy development, as needed.  The ideal person for this position has a statewide perspective, has outdoor recreation or conservation experience, has a good grasp of outdoor recreation or conservation issues, and has the time and interest to participate in the committee. The volunteer will serve from February 2011 to December 2013. Committee work generally requires up to four, weekday meetings a year. 

 

The state Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) is looking for volunteers to serve on its Recreational Trails Program advisory committee.  Specifically, they have one position each open for: Snowmobilers, Hikers, All-terrain vehicle recreationists & Four-wheel drive vehicle recreationists.  The advisory committee evaluates grant applications from federal, local, and state agencies and non-profit organizations for projects that maintain backcountry trails. Funds also are available for educational programs and materials. Members also assist with program policy development as needed.  Appointed members will serve from February 2011 to December 2014 and attend about one weekday meeting a year. In addition, advisors spend 15 to 25 hours each year evaluating grant applications for funding.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Need funding for backcountry trails, boating facilities, or firearms and archery ranges? The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) is accepting applications in December 2010 for the following programs.  Applications for these three programs must be submitted by January 10, 2011.

  • Boating Facilities Program (BFP) - State and Local categories
  • Firearms and Archery Range Recreation Program (FARR)
  • Nonhighway and Off-Road Vehicle Activities Program (NOVA) All  categories including Education and Enforcement.
