Designed to address the growing "nature deficit" in children of all ages, the Nature Play Summit will bring together leaders in Parks and Recreation, environmental, education and health care to help foster the values of nature play. $25 registration includes breakout sessions, lunch and the exhibitor fair. THREE THINGS KIDS CAN DO TO STAY HEALTHY The Washington Post - First lady Michelle Obama issued an important report for kids recently. She thinks too many kids in America weigh too much, and she wants to do something about it. The first lady is right. Almost one in every three kids - 31.7 percent - from the ages two to 19 is overweight or obese. That's more than three times as high as in the 1970s, when lots of your moms and dads were growing up. The report, by the Childhood Obesity Task Force, makes 70 recommendations for how governments and businesses, such as restaurants, can help kids eat better and live healthier, more active lives. CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS - 2010 Mid Year Committee The first official meeting of the 2010 Mid Year Conference & Trade Show Committee is set for Friday June 18, 2010 from 10am - 12noon in Redmond. We are seeking a creative team of professionals who will provide oversight, resources and assistance in hosting our November 19, 2010 Mid Year at the Seattle Convention & Trade Center. Conference committees are a great way to meet new people and collaborate on a project that provides statewide benefits to the industry. Are you trying to protect your local rivers, save an unspoiled landscape, or build trails to help everyone in your community enjoy nature?
Applications for the next round of technical assistance can be submitted until August 1.
Through the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) program, the National Park Service provides staff who can guide communities in conserving waterways, preserving open space, and developing trails and greenways.
Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss their project ideas with our staff near you before submitting an application.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR NRPA CONGRESS
The American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) presents information and application for the AAPRA Externship for the 2010 NRPA Congress, October 26-29, Minneapolis. The AAPRA is endeavoring to recruit young professionals, 35 years and younger as applicants for scholarships to attend the 2010 NRPA Congress. AAPRA has designated two scholarships for promoting diversity leadership. Application deadline is June 18, 2010. |
