In 1795, a clutch of families set out from a small village 60 miles northwest of New York City called Montgomery. They arrived a year later at the junction of two Indian trails that later came to be known as Cooper Road & Main Street. These settlers put down strong roots and gave their new community the same name as the one they had left. Some of these early familes had names that are familiar to this day, such as Snider & Terwilliger. Others family names, such as Felter and Roosa, are less familiar. However, in 1864, it was the Roosa name that was one of the most famous in the entire midwest after members of the family were victims in one of the most sensational crime stories in Ohio history- one that rivaled the infamous Lizzie Borden incident some years later. This lovely village grew at a very slow pace. It took 175 years for the village to attain 5,000 residents and become a City. It took less than 30 years to more than double in population. This rapid growth induced historic minded citizens to become active in preserving benchmarks of history lest they be lost to rapid development. The City has identified and preserved 32 historic landmarks, giving the community a true, old world village feel. Today, the City of Montgomery is roughly bounded by I-71 to the west, Reagan Highway to the south, I 275 to the north, and The Village of Indian Hill to the east.. Landmarks pictured from left to right are: The Crain-Conklin House at 9463 Montgomery Road (circa 1821) - The Pioneer building, 9433 Montgomery Road (circa 1818) - The Universalist Church, corner of Montomery & Remington Roads (circa 1837). Each of these landmarks is on the National Register. The richly preserved history of the City does not hide the fact that a large portion of the residences have been built in the past 40 years. Indeed, Montgomery is an upscale community with some of the finer homes in Cincinnati and a highly rated school system. We've had many clients who tell us it's a fantastic place to raise a family. If you're interested in living in this fine community, we have an excellent home for sale at 7860 Jolain Drive. (Click on the address for information.) Residents are justifyiably proud of their public school system: Sycamore Public Schools. Sycamore High School is ranked 19th in the State of Ohio and 469th nationally. Other schools include Symmes Elemetary school (PK-4), Schilling School for gifted children (K-12), Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, (PK-12). Montgomery residents don't have to go far to access their choice of parks. These include Johnson Nature Preserve, Pioneer Park, Dulle Park, Weller Park, Montgomery Park, Pfeiffer Park, & Swaim Park. Residents also enjoy easy access to a variety of golf courses such as Oasis, O'Bannon, & Eagle's Nest Golf Clubs. The highly rated Blue Ash public golf course is also very convenient. There is a plethora of convenient dining and shopping options. Montgomery Square and Kenwood Towne Center provide residents with just about every staple or extravagance. This is a community that had a vision of preservation and saw that vision through! Note: The images of landmarks above came from the City of Montgomery website.
