Wbug Last month, we discussed the many new restaurants in the downtown core. This month, we're providing an update on notable projects in a few other neighborhoods.
Wbug Norwood
The Rookwood Exchange - After years of litigation by former home owners, construction at the 12 acre, pie shaped lot bounded by Edwards & Edmondson Roads and I-71 is moving forward. The project will proceed in two phases. The first phase consists of a 400 room Marriott Courtyard Hotel featuring a C-Bar, a Bistro, and a fire pit patio. The hotel is scheduled to open March 2013. Second phase includes an 8 story office building with parking for 750 cars. Plans for a 16 screen movie theatre complex have been dropped.
Wbug We anticipate Rookwood Exchange will be every bit as prosperous as Rookwood Pavilion and Rookwood Commons. The Rookwood Commons recently announced that REI Coop will open a store in that complex. See map of Commons and Pavilion.
Wbug Oakley
Oakley Station - Plans have been in the works to develop the site of the former Cincinnati Milacron for years. It was long referenced as the Millworks Complex. The economy curtailed the project for several years, but it’s on track once again. Oakley Station is already home to Target, Meijer, LA Fitness and Sam’s Club.
Wbug Next up is a Cinemark Century Theatre, a 16 screen movie theatre opening towards the end of this year. Approvals have also been given to finish out the 74 acre site with office and residential space. One plan indicated 300+ apartment units consisting of 1 and 2 bedrooms. Plans show that most of the 74 acres is devoted to blacktop surface parking. This must have been what led Cincinnati City Councilwoman Laurie Quinlivan to recommend adding some amount of greenspace to the site.
Wbug The Kennedy Connector - Final Phase is now underway. We referenced this huge project last year in relationship with the reconstruction of Madison Road. A new road will be built between Duck Creek to Madison Road. This will provide for a more direct connection to northbound I-71. View 2 page project plan here.
Wbug Evanston & Avondale
Keystone Parke - Neyer Construction has announced plans to develop the plot of land between Dana Avenue and the American Red Cross building and fronting I-71. Identified in company literature as Keystone Parke, the 10 acres will include a 120 room hotel with bar, an office/medical building and retail space.
Wbug Neyer incorporates environmental considerations. For instance, rather than acres of black surface parking, they are building a 1,800 car, 4 story garage with a white reflective roof to reduce the 'heat island' effect. They also include secure bicyle racks and showers.
Wbug One mile down the road on Dana Avenue is the road work going on around Xavier University. Project goals include; widening to allow left turn lanes, new sidewalks, trees, medians, & water main.
Wbug Norwood, Oakley and Evanston continue to make great leaps. Space limitations prevented us from referencing positive developments in Walnut Hills, but you can read a recent Enquirer article about the Walnut Hills renaissance here.Wbug -RSIR
