Wbug The 2010 census counted 2,251 residents and 806 homes in Terrace Park. Residents benefit from being in the highly rated Mariemont School District.
Wbug The history of Terrace Park includes clowns, snake handlers and wild animals! But let’s begin at the beginning. The first settlement by non-Native Americans occurred in January 1789 when Abraham Covalt led a group of 45 settlers to land they had purchased. A sturdy fort was built near present day St Thomas Episcopal Church. Even so, it was not until 1794, when General ‘Mad’ Anthony Wayne defeated the Indians at the Battle of Fallen Timbers, that the area of present day Terrace Park could begin to grow.
Wbug Terrace Park was incorporated in 1836 and in 1841 was connected to the world through the Little Miami Railroad. Even prior to the arrival of the railroad, residents were constructing extraordinary homes, including the oldest Terrace Park address still standing at 1005 Elm Avenue, built in 1800. This is the home of former Senator John Smith and has undergone extensive renovations. A home that looks remarkably similar to what it did when it was built in 1810 is 601 Wooster Pike.
Wbug Three other homes built prior to the arrival of the railroad include 6 Kris Circle and 115 Red Bird Lane, built in 1830, and the home at 725 Wooster Pike, built in 1840.

Wbug Now for the colorful part of the story; in the late 1850’s, John Robinson (no relation to Lee Robinson) decided to make Terrace Park the winter home for his circus. Soon, there were as many exotic animals as residents! These included elephants, lions, tigers, and bears. Oh my, it must have been something! One tale describes a couple plucking a chicken on their porch when, looking up, they eyed a lion striding directly toward them! They dashed into the house, leaving the chicken to the lion. Oral history recounts residents marveling at camels and their trainers practicing their act on local streets at night.
Wbug The Robinson Circus was a thriving enterprise and in 1855, John Robinson built a really wonderful home at 1 Circus Place. This house not only still stands, with renovations and upgrades, it’s better than ever! We are proud to say we have represented the owners of this home in a past sale. Another home with links to the Robinson Circus is 732 Miami Avenue. This home originally had large, open porches where circus performers could regularly be seen practicing their acts.
Wbug Other historic homes include: 429 Elm (1860), 625 Elm (1868), , 720 Elm (1869), and 615 Amherst (1894). While these homes have had extensive renovations that include additions, the original structure remains an integral part of each home.
Wbug There are many and varied opportunities for exercise and play in Terrace Park. The recently completed Avoca Trailhead connects residents to the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail and many miles of biking fun. Beautiful greenspace is as near as the Village Green, Kroger Hills State Reserve, the Cincinnati Nature Center & California Woods Nature Center. Easy access to the Little Miami River is highly prized by kayakers and canoeists. Terrace Park Country Club is quite popular, as is the Terrace Park Swim and Tennis Club.
Wbug Residents often refer to the community as having a "Mayberry" feel. With beautiful, historic homes, great schools, and easy access to wonderful shopping and dining in nearby Milford & Mariemont, this does seem like an ideal neighborhood. Terrace Park has traded its circus atmosphere for quiet refinement - a state of affairs most appreciated by residents.Wbug -RSIR
