Wbug The City of Norwood is an autonomous city with it's own municipal services. For many decades, it was home to a wide variety of manufacturers. Like elsewhere in the nation, much of this manufacturing base has been lost. However, Norwood has been quite successful in reinventing itself. Successful developments have been spun from the former GM site, such as the Central Parke complex and the Matrixx/Convergys building. The Rookwood Pavilion at Edwards Road has been a smashing success, as has the adjacent Rookwood Commons! Browne Mackie College has established a branch at Linden Pointe and Kroger has doubled the size of it's Surrey Square store. This mall now includes a new Marshalls. Norwood is also the home base for United Dairy Farmers.
Wbug The newest development is the Rookwood Exchange. This is the 12 acre site at the center of the landmark Eminent Domain case that went all the way to the Supreme Court. That kerfuffel was a setback for the original development. A subsequent plan had a Marriott Courtyard hotel, 2 restaurants, a movie theatre and rental housing. However, the state of the economy neutralized those plans, at least for now.
Wbug Geography: Norwood features a somewhat flatter southern portion, and the much hillier northern portion. The northern portion features an archeologically fascinating Indian Mound – from which this part of the city derives its name. This is one of the highest points in Hamilton County.
Wbug Demographics: The population of the city is 20,411, as of July, 2009. The median age of residents is 34.1, compared to a state average of 36.2. The value of real estate has been remarkably resilient in light of the national trends. In 2000, the estimated median house/condo was $87,600. In 2008, that had risen to $123,042. The estimated median household income rose from $32,223 in 2000 to $39,568 in 2008. There are some fine schools in Norwood. Williams Elementary has a rating of 7 out of a possible 10. Allison Street Elementary, Sharpsburg Elementary, and Norwood Middle School all rate 6.
Wbug As it is completely landlocked, Norwood has no ‘urban sprawl’. For this reason, nearly every home is at least 50 years old. Fortunately, many of these older homes are sound and architecturally interesting, like the homes on Floral and adjacent streets. (This area is known as the Presidental District.) Affordability, architecture, and stable neighborhoods have attracted an influx of younger singles and couples who have been buying and rehabbing these homes and setting down roots. This has created a ripple effect that is contributing to an infusion of energy to the area.
Wbug Convenience is another consideration of those who choose to reside here. Not only can you find everything you need within Norwood itself, the community is bordered by three freeways. Perhaps no other community provides such quick access to so much of the Cincinnati area as Norwood. If residents want to have fun closer to home, there are 3 pools for residents and 11 parks! Norwood even has a planetarium! It's the Drake Planetarium and it offers a slew of educational events.
Wbug We have 3 homes listed for sale, (2425 Hudson, 2237 Hannaford, and 4125 Bell) in Norwood. These homes are being marketing by Tim Hinde. Tim will soon be marketing the fabulously beautiful church on Courtland Avenue. This lovely church is not yet listed, but you can see it here and read more about it.

Wbug Norwood is the hometown of a surprising array of notable personalities. For a list - click here and scroll to the bottom of the page.Wbug -RSIR
