Giving Hope

Ezekiel, Brighton, and Charlie are three pre-teen boys on the brink of becoming young men. Life isn't easy for kids at this age, but it is even harder when you are facing difficult obstacles on your own.

 Boys

These three boys are just about to age out-meaning they are getting too old to be considered for adoption. They each also have an open cleft palate, which makes it more difficult for them to speak clearly. It was their and our hope that they could have their surgeries in the summer so they wouldn't miss any school. But they have already been on the website for a month, and we still haven't received enough donations to move them for their surgery.

We would love to give these boys hope--hope for a future of being understood when they speak; hope for getting jobs in order to support themselves; hope for a chance at happy, healthy lives. Let's not let them down!

Click here and consider helping these three boys receive this life-changing surgery and a brighter hope for the future.

It's All About Teamwork

by Kate Finco

Medical Director

My son plays high school football (American football).  He has already started practicing for the upcoming school year and is very  excited about this year's team.  As he was telling me all about the new   playbook and his responsibilities in each position he will play, I began to see a connection between his football team and LWB.

In American football the main object of the game is to get the football into the end zone, but that only happens through the coordinated efforts of a lot of players on the team.

In the case of LWB our team also consists of a lot of   members:  Our coaches - the executive directors and board members, who call the plays. Our volunteers, who play offense.  Our opponents,  including illness and pain (fought by our medical and healing homes programs); loneliness and lack of family support (attacked by our  foster care program);   illiteracy and hopelessness (battled by our education program); and hunger and cold (contested by our  nutrition and orphanage assistance  program).  And, vitally important, our fans and cheerleaders - those who  sponsor children, run marathons, or set up lemonade stands to benefit children; pray for the  children; or spread the word about each child's needs. The ball is represented by each and every child who comes into our care. Each member of the LWB team is working together to get that child into the end zone healthy, whole, and with the best possible chance of being a successful, happy person.

This month's newsletter focuses on LWB's Medical Program. There are so many children who need our help, and yours, simply to live-children with congenital defects of the heart or intestinal tract, cleft lip and palate, club feet or tumors.  The needs are great, but there are so many wonderful, positive things happening in LWB's Medical Program that we are very  excited to share with you.

But our medical program is only one part of the LWB team, and I would encourage everyone to visit our website, www.lovewithoutboundaries.com, to read about all our programs. There is so much going on and so many children's lives being touched in profound ways-and it takes every single member of the LWB team to make it  happen

Thank you to everyone on our team working to get as many children as possible into the end zone.  I know we are  going to have another great season!

Recent Medical Updates

July was another busy month in the Medical Program.  And we can truly say "we Y kids," because many of the children we took care of this month had heart surgeries,  some of which were very complex procedures.

Victoria benefited from our Unity Fund for her heart surgery.  She travelled to the hospital with her aunt and missed her family very much.  She is still hospitalized as she recovers.

Little Louise had a complex heart surgery and is recuperating (and smiling!) at Heartbridge. She will need a follow-up surgery when she is about 3 years old.

Blake and MillieSonny (who really has a "sunny" disposition!) is recovering from his complex surgery at a specialized foster home.

Little Eden had heart surgery as well as treatment for bronchitis and is back with her foster family.

Sweet Liam and Blake are both still in the hospital as they continue to recover from their heart surgeries.

Several children had surgeries to correct their cleft lip or palate. Baby Eliza and little Matthew have new smiles! Shelby (age 5) and Wendalyn (age 6) had their cleft palates repaired. They healed nicely and were smiling and giggling just a couple of days after surgery!

A new little one, baby Adrienne, was diagnosed with megacolon. She had corrective surgery and a bit of an infection afterwards, but is doing better and will be recuperating at Heartbridge.

Thank you for your support of the Medical Program.  Without your help, none of these children would have the opportunity to be healed, or to experience the love of a special ayi or nurse, or join a forever family someday.

Your support makes such a difference!

Thank you for bringing hope to orphaned children in China!
