The Orphanage Assistance Program -
Comfort and Contentment
Love Without Boundaries' Orphanage Assistance Program began in 2003 when a group of adoptive parents wanted to help two orphanages in China by providing nutritious formula. Since that time, our nutrition program has expanded into seven provinces and we have provided goods and services to children who reside in many other orphanages throughout China. With the help of our generous donors, we have helped orphanages acquire the supplies necessary to provide safety and comfort to the children, and also to enrich their lives. Orphanage Assistance has helped provide items like safe cribs and warm quilts, heating and cooling systems, clean drinking water, warm winter coats and clothing, diapers, formula, washing machines and dryers, incubators, toys and outdoor playground equipment. This program also helps provide special services such as extra aunties and orphanage doctors. It is exciting to think of the possibility for us to enrich the lives of children in orphanages where there may not otherwise be established programs.
We hope you'll enjoy learning about just a few of the ways this program is touching lives. Thank you to everyone who partners with us to bring comfort and contentment into the lives of deserving children.

"Preemie and Special Formula Fund" to the Rescue!
During Amy and Julie's recent trip to Guizhou they visited an orphanage in Liupanshui. While visiting with the children, they saw several tiny preemies. Babies born prematurely need special formula designed to support their nutritional needs. PreNan formula is one such formula; it works wonders but is expensive! Because of our generous sponsors who support our Preemie and Special Formula fund, Amy knew that we could fund formula for these babies. She called one of our team members in Beijing and asked her to immediately send two cases of PreNan formula and a case of cleft bottles. We were all wishing the formula company had overnight delivery! We look forward to watching the babies put on the pounds and develop those oh, so kissable chubby cheeks!
LWB's Nutrition Program is in need of one-time donations and monthly sponsorships in any amount to help us send special formula to children born prematurely or children who need to put on weight and who have special nutritional needs. Sponsors of our preemie and special formula fund will receive quarterly updates on the children benefiting from their donations. Your support will help give children with special nutritional needs the best chance of healthy lives.

| Pingliang Aunties Provide Extra Helping Hands
Can you imagine providing the primary care for five, six or seven babies? What if you were called on to singlehandedly provide the care for even more children than that? Would you be able to provide quality care to them, even the ones needing extra attention and time with feeding and general care? This is daily life for many orphanage caregivers. These heroic women do their best, but which of them wouldn't love an extra pair of helping hands?
The Pingliang Aunties program provides extra caregivers to the orphanage in Pingliang, Gansu province. The children thrive with the extra care and loving attention of the additional helpers. Many of the children in this orphanage have special needs, so the extra assistance allows the children to receive care tailored to their specific needs, be it physical therapy or feeding with a cleft bottle.
The Pingliang Aunties program welcomed three new aunties in the first quarter of 2011.
Fan Xiao Ying is an experienced nanny who wants to work in the orphanage long term. She understands the importance of taking good care of the babies and takes her job very seriously. The little one she holds in this picture definitely looks content!
Xi Hai Yan is patient and gentle with all of the children. She works hard to take care of the kids and she is happy to be a Pingliang Auntie!
Ren Xiao Li is happy to have a job as an auntie. She enjoys working with the children and is so kind to them.
The extra hands and hearts provided by the Aunties program are a blessing to the wonderful children of Pingliang. Thank you to those who sponsor this vital program! |

Driving Miles for Smiles (And Full Tummies)!
Nutrition and Orphanage Assistance want to give a little update on our recent award from the Ford Company and the Focus Global Test Drive Program. I have had the amazing opportunity to participate in activities which have resulted in financial contributions that will bless babies in China.
It's been quite the adventure for me as I've seen different places and experienced new things. And let's not forget to mention that I even got to share a little bit with the police officer whom I unintentionally met one day when I was cruising along a bit faster than I should have been. (This "sharing" wasn't included in payable expenses by Ford.)
I heard about this contest through LWB and decided to enter. I prepared a short video about how I would use the $10,000 award for baby formula. I was one of the forty people in the world to receive the honor of this award to be given to the charity of the recipient's choice. A big part of the adventure was that along with this award, the Ford Company sent me and the other 39 winners to Madrid, Spain for a test drive and training event. How fun to have my first trip to Europe also benefit our babies!
Once back home, I was provided with a 2012 Ford Focus to use for six weeks. Ford wanted me to drive and promote the car as well as to use it to promote my charity, LWB. They were kind enough to provide the funds for the gas for this big project. So I set a goal to drive the car 10,000 miles in six weeks and to try to raise another $10,000 by getting donations and pledges. I began taking various day trips and a few longer trips. I visited cities in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, California and Montana, including six state capitals. Along the way, I also visited Ford dealerships where I showed off the car to staff, many of whom hadn't yet seen a 2012 Focus. Some of these visits even resulted in donations! An event was planned for the dealership in my home area that helped bring in $1240 and provided me with experiences in interviewing on radio stations and working with a marketing company on commercials for TV and radio.
It certainly has been a very interesting adventure; one that has been fun and educational. But the most important part is that it was a way to provide formula for the babies. With Ford's initial grant, we were able to put some of this money into nutrition programs that were in need of funding. After all of this, I am happy to report that I did accomplish my goal of driving the 10,000 miles in six weeks. The 10,000 miles resulted in more than $4200. Thank you to everyone who participated in making this challenge a success for the comfort and well-being of babies! Well, back to being a Love Without Boundaries volunteer mom in a white mini-van.
