Small Business Of the Year Awards' Luncheon Announces Speakers

  

 

    

On June 7, 2012 at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel, the North Texas Small Business Development Center and the Arlington Chamber will honor businesses, both small and large. The Chamber will also recognize its prestigious small businesses of the year in both the for-profit and non-profit categories. The emcee for the event will be a D/FW favorite - Scott Murray. Chamber's Women's Alliance Announces May 3 Screening of Historic Documentary - Miss Representation 

Miss RepresentationThe Chamber's Women's Alliance, in partnership with SafeHaven and Tarrant County College, Southeast Campus, host a screening of the acclaimed film - Miss Representation. Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the film exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. Click here to register for the May 3 screening and panel discussion. Admission is FREE for the 6:00 - 8:30 pm event at TCC - Southeast Campus. Pre-registration is required as seating is limited. You will leave armed with a new perspective.

Please Respond to Four Questions About Workforce Candidates Coming Out of Schools 

A discussion about what the business community expects from high school and college graduates has been going on in various forums for years. Lately, that discussion has become more public, as businesses are getting more aggressive - and more concerned - about the workforce of the future. The Arlington Chamber of Commerce has designed a short, four-question survey to get at least a look into what our members think about the workforce that is coming out of our high schools and post-secondary institutions. New District 33 Congressional Candidate "Meet and Greet"

The Chamber is hosting short, members-only meetings with candidates who are most likely to be competitive in the newly created Congressional District 33, which contains part of Arlington. Attendance at each session is FREE. Click on the name of the candidate to register for that session.

  

Former State Rep. Domingo Garcia of Dallas will be at the Chamber Tuesday, April 17 at 8:30 am. 

  

Former Dallas City Council member Steve Salazar has confirmed for Tuesday, April 24 at 8:30 am. 

 

Former Fort Worth City Council member Kathleen Hicks has confirmed for Wednesday, April 25 at 8:30 am.

Historic Energy Forum Set for May 17

The Chamber is hosting an Energy and Natural Resources Public Policy Forum Thursday, May 17, 8:30 am - 1:30 pm at the Arlington Convention Center. The forum will touch on energy generation, water supply and other crucial infrastructure issues from a federal, state and local perspective.

 

The keynote speaker will be Karen Harbert, president and chief executive officer of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for 21st Century Energy. State Representative Jim Keffer, chairman of the Energy Resources Committee in the Texas House, is also a confirmed speaker. The cost for registration is $35 for non-members and $25 for Chamber members. You may register by clicking here.

 

The energy forum is part of a series that Chamber will conduct periodically as it rolls out the 10-year strategic plan. A forum on mobility is set for October 4 and a date for a discussion of redevelopment in early 2013 will be announced later this summer.

The course will be held on Thursday, April 19 from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Chamber offices. Wednesday's Learning Over Lunch- "Doing Business with the City of Arlington"

City of ArlingtonCome hear Debra Twinam with her presentation on simplifying the procurement process for the supplier community. Designed to walk businesses through the Supplier Portal Registration Process and provide a synopsized overview of contracting with the City for services and supplies. This class is a must for firms pursuing City contracts.
