Chamber After Hours Networking Event is Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, the Arlington Chamber will hold a Chamber After Hours from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the Black-eyed Pea. This come-and-go event provides the opportunity for networking, building relationships and exchanging business cards with prospective clients and customers. Women's Alliance Enjoys Success at Inaugural "Tiara Tuesday"

The Chamber's Women's Alliance held their inaugural "Tiara Tuesday" last week at Mavericks. The reviews have been positive for the new event planned to be held on a quarterly basis. A special thanks goes out to Mavericks Bar & Grill for their generous contribution from the evening's proceeds. The donation supports the Chamber Foundation efforts - especially the Judith Carrier Scholarship Fund established by the Women's Alliance. Water Remains an Issue - Even in Arlington!

After a year of bone-dry weather and near-record heat, recent rains have created the impression in some minds that last year's drought is over and we can return to water consumption on a whenever-we-need -it basis. But local and state officials all caution that our water needs over the long term will not be met without conservation, planning and the state spending some money. Continue reading here.

Businesses Invited to Open House at New College Park Center

On April 18, from 8:30-10:30 am, you have a chance to experience the buzz at an open house and tour of the new College Park Center. The new, $78 million, 218,000-square-foot facility on the UT Arlington Campus provides a new home court for the University's basketball and volleyball teams, as well as a signature facility for high profile events, conferences and community activities. U.S. Affordable Care Act Moves to Supreme Court This Week

CapitolWith the national dialogue dominated this week by the U.S. Affordable Care Act, a presentation to a couple of Texas House committees from late February is relevant. Dr. Thomas Saving, director of the Private Enterprise Research Center at Texas A&M University and a former Trustee of the Medicare and Social Security systems, told lawmakers that health care costs are going to consume the federal budget in the coming decades.

Discover Division - Improving Division Street

Discover DivisionArlington City officials are studying what measures could be taken to improve both the land uses and appearance of Division Street between Collins Street and Cooper Street. Labeled "Discover Division," consultants, property owners and city officials are reviewing the economic conditions and possible feasible land uses as well as design standards that could affect the streetscape as the corridor evolves.

 

A study committee has met a couple of times, and that committee includes a representative from the Chamber of Commerce. The information presented to the committee at its last meeting is posted here.

The AISD and Chamber Proudly Host Entrepreneurship Day is This Saturday!

351 students from the Arlington ISD will be recognized at the "What's Your Big Idea" Entrepreneurship Day festivities at Texas Hall on the UT Arlington Campus. The 2:00 pm event will also award the Top 24 students and their teachers. Top students are awarded prizes from the Texas Rangers, Six Flags Over Texas, Alley Cats and UT Arlington. SBDC "How to Start a Business" Seminar at Chamber on April 12.

The Tarrant Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is offering a 2 hour mini-course on "How to Start a Business." The course will be held on Thursday, April 12 from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Chamber offices. April's Learning Over Lunch- "Doing Business with the City of Arlington"

Come hear Debra Twinam with her presentation on simplifiying the procurement process for the supplier community. Designed to walk businesses through the Supplier Portal Registration Process and provide a synopsized overview of contracting with the City for services and supplies. This class is a must for firms pursuing City contracts.
