May 29 Primary Set - Redistricting Impacts Arlington

CapitolSome short-term certainty returned, probably, to Texas elections last week when a San Antonio federal court ordered a May 29 primary date and a July 31 runoff leading up to November's general election. The court earlier in the week issued a third set of maps that conform - at the state legislative level-much more closely to those originally drawn by the Texas Legislature in 2011. Read more here.

Women's Alliance to Hold Inaugural "Tiara Tuesday"

The Women's Alliance of the Arlington Chamber is holding a "Tiara Tuesday" on March 20 at Maverick's Grill from 5:00-7:00 pm. "Tiara Tuesday" is a wonderful opportunity for women and their friends to network and learn about women in the Arlington business community. Wear a tiara - you just might win a prize!

Tiara Tuesday supports the Arlington Chamber Foundation and the annual Women's Alliance Judith Carrier Scholarship. Click here to register.

Chamber Asks City to Delay Gas Drilling Fee

Leaders of the Chamber of Commerce last week urged the Arlington City Council to slow down its implementation of a new fee proposed for companies drilling gas wells, especially since a new set of regulations was just approved by the Council in November that imposed additional costs on the industry. Industry officials argue that many of the additional resources in the Fire Department that the new fee would pay for are redundant, since specialized training, equipment and emergency response necessary to address well incidents would still need to be provided by the companies.

The city's discussion in favor of the measure is here on the Chamber's website.

The Chamber's letter to the city is here.
