Small Business of the Year Nominations End This Friday 

The Arlington Chamber of Commerce will recognize two small businesses in the community (one for-profit, one non-profit) for their business achievements, innovativeness, response to adversity and contributions to aid community-oriented projects. Click here to download the nomination form. The form is short, easy to fill out and does not require financial information. Hurry, your small business nomination must be submitted by March 2.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems Consortium Convened at Chamber Today

The inaugural meeting of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Consortium took place today at the Chamber. The partnership of the Chamber's Center for Innovation, the City of Arlington and the Arlington Police Department met with 40 leaders in the industry - including, manufacturing, technology, business, government and others. The goals of the Consortium are six-fold;
  1. Expedite the transition of UAS technologies from federal agencies to the commercial sector.
  2. Increase the manufacture of unmanned aircraft solutions that meet emerging markets.
  3. Seek funding for research, training, and product development to support the technology needs of the UAS industry and efforts to commercialize new technologies.
  4. Actively seek solutions for the safe and effective operation between manned and unmanned aircraft systems, including standards development.
  5. Develop access to testing airspace for government, academic, and corporate research.
  6. Establish a Policy Research Center and Clearinghouse on UAS and Human Factors research.
