 The Chamber and Foundation Boards of Directors are planning a luncheon celebration marking the 10th anniversary of Wes Jurey's service as president & CEO of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. Join the Boards and featured speakers on January 26 from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at the Cacharel Grand Ballroom as they recognize Wes' significant accomplishments to the Arlington business community. | Christkindl Market Is This Week! | |
 All are invited to attend Arlington's Inaugural Christkindl Holiday Market Thursday - Sunday of this week. Hours are 3 pm-10 pm Thursday and Friday, 10 am - 10 pm Saturday and 11 am - 7 pm on Sunday. Admission and parking are free. Christkindl entrance is at the corner of Road to Six Flags and Ballpark Way - just north of the Ballpark. Park in Lots E, L or D or at Lincoln Square shopping center, every day except Sunday. Due to the Cowboys Game, parking on Sunday will be at Hurricane Harbor. Ride the Arlington Trolleys to/from lots free.

| Supreme Court Rules Margins Tax Valid | |
 Last week the Texas Supreme Court rejected a challenge to the state's franchise tax, known as the Margins Tax, declaring it a valid tax in light of a challenge from two business entities that it was an unconstitutional tax on individual income. The Texas Constitution prohibits a state income tax without a public vote affirming such a tax.
While the decision reduces some urgency for state lawmakers to act, the effectiveness of the franchise tax in raising revenue for public education, its designated purpose since it was rewritten in 2006, remains something legislators need to grapple with. The system has never produced the revenue that was projected, especially in light of growing public-school enrollment that will seek increasing dollars in future legislative sessions.
