Chamber President Addresses State Committee
Chamber President Wes Jurey told a Texas House committee last week that the state needs to maintain its current economic development incentives to retain and attract the automobile industry. During Friday's hearing of the House Economic Development and Small Business Development Committee, Jurey asked House members to think about enhancing the state's water resources and transportation infrastructure as measures as critical to economic development. His full testimony can be read here.
Information supplied to the committee about the impact of the Arlington General Motors Assembly plant on Texas and GM's impact on the state can be found here. |

State Redistricting Splits Arlington
Incumbents and candidates for the Texas Legislature saw many of their plans get radically changed by a panel of federal judges in San Antonio last week, when the Legislature's maps for new state House and Senate districts were tossed out and new, interim maps drawn by the courts were released.
The maps dramatically change the way districts for both houses were drawn in Tarrant County, splitting Arlington into two state Senate districts and drawing incumbent Republicans Barbara Nash and Kelly Hancock into the same House district.
The maps can be viewed on the Texas Legislative Services website. Select the "Base Map" option and then scroll down to the bottom. The House map is Plan H298 and the Senate plan is PlanS163. |
