CFI-Sponsored NASVF Conference Major Success

The Center For Innovation sponsored the 18th Annual National Association of Seed & Venture Funds held last week in Arlington. The NASVF Board declared this conference their "most successful" ever.
CFI Announces New Initiatives
During a panel discussion headed by Wes Jurey, new initiatives were announced representing technology transfer; including a new partnership with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and a new consortium to support development for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) industry in Texas. US Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development John Fernandez Speaks "There needs to better engagement with states and the Economic Development Administration to encourage regional growth," Mr. Fernandez stated. States and regions understand their challenges better than the federal government, therefore the EDA is focusing on giving regions the tools to meet those needs and avoiding a "one size fits all" approach. Interim Studies Challenge University Research, Question State Debt

A list of issues for Texas House members to study between now and the 83rd Legislative Session in 2013 include examining the growing levels of state debt, improving Texas' manufacturing capabilities and challenging how university research programs contribute to their institutions. Retail Study Indicates Holiday Consumers to Spend More on Themselves

The National Retail Federation released a study for expected retail sales this holiday season. While consumers may be spending slight less on gifts, they will spend more on themselves. The NRF forecasts an increase of 2.8% in November and December retail sales. Read the highlights here.
