Women's Alliance Unveils Scholarship and Hero Award Programs

The Women's Alliance of the Arlington Chamber announced two new programs to coincide with their inaugural annual "Inspired-Women" luncheon November 4 - a $1,000 scholarship and a Hero Award. The $1,000 scholarship is available to qualifying female students from either TCC Southeast or UT Arlington. The Hero Award was established to recognize a woman demonstrating leadership capabilities and a commitment within our community. Details and forms about all programs can be found here. Nominations are open for the next 30 days.

Chamber After Hours is Tomorrow
Zio'sChamber After Hours is a come and go event providing the opportunity for networking, building relationships and exchanging business cards with prospective clients and customers. It is also a terrific way to introduce a prospective member to the Chamber. This month's event will be held tomorrow, at Zio's Italian Kitchen, located at 5005 S Cooper St., #151 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Chamber Foundation Receives $50,000 Grant from AT&T

AT&T GrantAt the September Board of Directors meeting, the Arlington Chamber Foundation received a $50,000 check from the AT&T Foundation. The funds will further the Foundation's quality research, analysis and strategic planning to give guidance and direction to the Chamber's economic and community development strategies and initiatives. Presenting the check was AT&T's Rudy Martinez. Mojy Haddad (Foundation Chair) and Wes Jurey (Foundation President & CEO) accepted the check on behalf of the Foundation.

NABC is Wednesday

NABCNorth Arlington Business Council will be held this Wednesday in the Moritz Room at the Chamber. Guest presenters include leaders from Huffines, who will lay out the plan for the 2500 acre, mixed-use development called "Viridian" in North Arlington. Clifton Kellogg to Speak at Center for Innovation Sponsored NASVF Conference

NASVFClifton Kellogg, Office of Capital Access, U.S. Department of the Treasury will speak during the 18th Annual National Seed & Venture Funds Conference Oct. 17-19 at the Sheraton Arlington. He will address the State Small Business Credit Initiative. Also on the conference agenda, John Fernandez, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Development will keynote "Bottoms Up vs. Top Down Federal Funding-Attracting Dollars for Industries in Your Region." City Holds Public Hearing Tomorrow on Redistricting

City of ArlingtonThe Arlington City Council will conduct a public hearing tomorrow night to take feedback from citizens on proposed plans to redraw the five single-member council districts. Some residents have pushed the council to add districts or eliminate at-large seats entirely, going to a council made of eight districts with only the mayor elected at large. However, the proposals currently under consideration retain the 5-3-1 structure. Click here to look at the two proposals.

 

The council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, 101 W. Abram St. The target date for a first vote on a new district alignment is October 25.
