Students at the recent Tailgate BBQ
Message From the Principal Dear Parents,
It was delightful to meet so many of you on Tuesday evening. The teachers value this opportunity to articulate the curricula and the expectations and they prepare well for the event. Many of you told me that it was a very informative evening. It gave me great pleasure yesterday to forward to the teachers your appreciation of the time they invested in the meetings. I am looking forward to tonight's Curriculum Night with the K - 5 families. It will begin at 7:00pm in Egan Hall. You are invited to join us on Monday morning, September 17, at 9:00 for the opening liturgy, Mass with Fr. Crispin. The Eucharist is the sum and summary of our faith, an action of thanksgiving to God. We have had a great start to the year and I hope you can attend this wonderful celebration of our Catholic values. This week, I sat in on a planning meeting for the Purple and Gold Dinner. These party planning volunteers are creating quite the event! As we take care of the future by building the endowment, we honor Mrs. Jacobson, who built such a solid foundation on which we continue to grow. Celebrate the past, live fully in the present and ensure the future at the Purple and Gold Dinner. You have heard the term Common Core Standards over and over again. Some of you may have investigated online at the Common Core website. Some of you are not quite sure how it all relates to St. John students. We will clarify on Tuesday evening at the Parent Association meeting. Come and join us in the Mezzanine at 6:30. Please tell your children to CROSS GREENWOOD AVE. AT 80th STREET ONLY! We have witnessed some close calls at 79th. There is a crossing guard at 80th. I hope you have taken the time to read the Family Handbook for the 2012/13 school year. This summer, members of the faculty and I ratified some of our policies and procedures. We implemented the usage of the Second Step Curriculum and Habits of Mind throughout the school and we clarified discrepancies in the uniform policy. The uniform is an outward symbol of whom we are and should be worn with pride. Thank you for your cooperation. Make sure that you sign all the required paperwork and return the forms to your child's teacher. Let us continue to respond with wonderment and awe at God's goodness! |

Football & Tailgating
Football frenzy has officially begun! You have to admit, one of the best things about football has to be the tailgating! Obviously, you'll want to use scrip for all of your grocery items like burgers, hot dogs, chips, paper plates, and plastic silverware. But scrip can also be used for those bigger purchases like grills, coolers, outdoor games, tables and chairs, and even tents. When you're surrounded by friends and family with all the right tailgating supplies it's almost as exciting as the game! Almost! What about your team apparel? Are you the tee shirt and jeans type, or do you go all out with the jersey and face paint? Either way, scrip has you covered. Team apparel makes a great gift, too! Check out the following brands for all sorts of tailgating necessities and sports team clothing: Amazon, Champs, Sports Authority, Nike and Target to name a few. Send an email to place an order today.
