Message From the Principal

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!  It is delightful to hear the sounds of learning echoing through the hallways.  School is way too quiet in early August!

This morning at the opening prayer service, we welcomed all our new students.  We also introduced the new faculty members:  Mrs. Sally Edwins is the new sixth grade teacher; each second grade now has an teaching assistant for the mornings - Mrs. Abby Mansfield and Mrs. Brandy Tieskoetter; Miss Megan Katsandres is Miss Feeney's assistant in first grade; and, Mrs. Samantha Phillips is our new kindergarten assistant.  Miss Sarah Gudaitis, the math specialist will be a full-time faculty member this year, enhancing achievement in math throughout the school.  We will miss Mrs. Meg Hinshaw and Mrs. Kim Miller, who resigned this summer.  We wish them both the best in their new endeavors.  We thank them for their many years of service and dedication.

Over the summer, the teachers attended workshops, inservices and seminars, including the Teacher Leadership Institute on the Habits of Mind and 21st Century Learning, catechetical certification classes, technology classes and grade level workshops.   At our back-to-school inservice we pooled the wisdom gleaned from our summer work and we are looking forward to implementing the fruits of our labor!  You will soon hear about the Habits of Mind, attitudes and dispositions, which help us to be more Christlike and better thinkers.  All teachers will teach these good habits through the Second Step Conflict Resolution Program and t he lessons will be integrated throughout the curriculum and the entire school day.   Jump to the head of the class by checking out www.cfchildren.org, where you will find Second Step online resources and www.habitsofmind.org . Last year, we began the work on the new Common Core math program; this year we will begin the implementation of the Common Core English language arts program.  Please attend the curriculum nights to learn more about these programs.

More News

I am sure you have noticed our beautiful new windows!   Thank you, St. John Parish and thank you, auction supporters for making it possible to replace all those windows on the first floor of the building.  Together, we make a difference!  Just one more floor to go!

Not only did Extended Daycare get new windows, it also has a remodeled kitchen.  Check out the new shiny appliances!  We all want to cook there!  We also have new plumbing and toilets in the main school building and the sewers on 79th street have been updated.   Again, thank you to St. John Parish for managing and helping to bring about these much needed upgrades.

In addition:

  • Room 29 has a new interactive projector.
  • We are implementing a newly updated student management system. Soon parents in grades 5 - 8 will be able to keep track of their children's grades online.
  • New trees have been planted near the main entrance on the north side of the building and the broken pavement has been repaired.
  • We have a new automated alert system.

It was a pleasure to see so many of you this morning. I wish you all the best for the new school year.

Beannacht,
