Message From the Principal

"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically... Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education."
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., The Maroon Tiger, 1947
When we think of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. we often think of his inspiring "I have a dream" speech. In an article written by Dr. King entitled, The Purpose of Education, published in the Morehouse College student newspaper in 1947, Dr. King goes on to say, "But education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals." As we prepare to honor Dr. King and look forward to celebrating Catholic Schools Week, let us consider the blessings that come to our children, families, and community through Catholic education, an education that feeds the mind, spirit, and soul of each student. Please note, school is not in session on Monday, January 16 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Beannacht - God Bless,
Bernadette O'Leary

 Let It...Snow?
With the possibility of snow in the forecast for the coming week I wanted to re-share with you the protocol for emergency school closures. When inclement weather or other emergency, such as broken water pipes, makes it necessary to close the school, parents will receive notification in a number of formats. Local television and radio announce weather closures or late starts. In addition, all parents will receive an AlertNow automated phone message with specific details regarding school closure. I also point you to our school website along with our Facebook and Twitter pages as an alternative and up-to-date method of staying informed. Seattle Archdiocesan schools typically follow the Seattle Public School schedule for emergency closure, though the final decision on closure is ultimately made by the principal. How easy is ScripNow?
"I was shopping for holiday gifts and saw that Lands' End was having a sale ($40 off a $100 purchase, with free shipping!). I try to always make purchases with Scrip, but I didn't have any Lands' End. I quickly hopped over to the ShopWithScrip website to see if they had ScripNow for Lands' End. They did! Back to Lands' End where I filled my cart with gifts and went to check-out. Once I knew the total, back to ScripNow to order the right amount. By the time I was ready to hit 'place order' my Scrip codes were in my inbox. Super easy, super fast and I got to support our school." Julia Rudden
