Message From the Principal

Halloween

It has been a week of wizardry, lore, tradition and mystery!   The Magazine Sale reward Magician was "cool," "awesome,"  "amazing"!   We all enjoyed the entertaining show.  Thank you to all of you who sold magazines!   Later in the day, the seventh and eighth graders hosted a fabulous carnival for our younger superheroes, princesses, witches, firefighters, wizards and so many other brightly colored characters.  The students shared their many creative, generous and friendly gifts to organize a very festive event for the students - Many gifts; one spirit!

Our Day of the Dead celebration was so moving.  Seņora DenAdel, and the fourth and fifth grade teachers led the students in a beautiful traditional commemoration of those who have died.   Thanks also to the parents who brought food for the celebration.

Some of you were able to attend the Mass for the Feast of All Saints.   The children raised their voices in an uplifting tribute to all the saints, living and dead.

As your child may have indicated we were briefly without water in the main building on Tuesday, due to follow-up work on newly installed fixtures.

Beannacht - God Bless,

Bernadette O'Leary

They will explore campus related topics and report on sports, music, poetry, art, different career paths, perspectives, and the interconnectedness of the world. Students will also learn about the current state of journalism, the impact of social media, and how blogs work. The St. John Eagle will publish both a print and electronic version of the newspaper. November Saint

Saint Martin de Porres

St. Martin de Porres

Feast Day: November 3rd

Virtue (Gift of the Holy Spirit): Counsel

Action: Like St. Martin, help those in need, through donations, prayers, or words of encouragement.

Martin was born in Lima, Peru in 1579, of a Spanish father and an Indian mother. He grew up in poverty and had a deep understanding and love for the poor. When quite young, he went to work for a surgeon-barber where he learned about medicine and how to care for the sick and the wounded.

At the age of fifteen, Martin entered the Dominican convent in Lima as a helper. Later he became a lay brother. With joy and generosity he performed lowly tasks in the kitchen, laundry, wardrobe room, and infirmary. His charity knew no bounds as he helped those in need of food or a word of encouragement. He loved all God's creatures, even the lowly mice that did so much damage to the convent linens!

Blessed with the gift of healing, Martin once cured the ailing Archbishop of Mexico with a touch of the hand.

Martin died of a fever in 1639, and was beatified in 1873. On May 6, 1962, he was canonized by Pope John XXIII.*

Scrip News

Where Can I Buy Scrip?

Standing orders are a great way to participate in the Scrip program.  You turn your check in on Wednesday and have your order delivered on Friday.  For the shopper who likes to buy as you go we offer live sales Monday - Friday in the parish office from 8:30am to 9:00am.  We try to have everything listed on the Scrip order form in stock but do from time to time run out.  Standing orders are the way to go should you want the same thing repeatedly.

Your support of the program is vital because these funds go to everything from building maintenance to textbooks.  October fell well short of our goal.  Please consider participating.  Every order counts!

violinMiddle School Orchestra Opportunity at Bishop Blanchet High School

"Youth Orchestra North" meets on Monday afternoons, in Haggerty Hall, (NW corner of campus) 4:00-5:30pm. We practice technique and rehearse orchestra scores, from beginning to intermediate, depending on the level of students involved. In January 2012, we will perform a short concert along with the other middle school groups at BBHS. This is a great chance for young musicians to experience the joy of orchestral music. Please check out www.bishopblanchet.org, under art, or go to our orchestra page for more information and to register.
