Greetings!

SUCCESSFUL MARATHON & HALF MARATHON TRAINING

There are 3 key elements to successful marathon training.

1. Staying extremely motivated

2. Training smart & Safe

3. Maintaining proper nutrition

If you get all of these 3 secret ingredients right then you will look forward to your big day and not be relying on determination and willpower to get you across the finish line

Remind yourself of the bigger picture, why did you set out to run the marathon or half marathon in the first place? Take some time to note down what the internal driver is for you, then you can use that to push yourself through willpower and determination. For example the internal driver for me doing the New York Marathon has nothing to do with cracking off a fast time, for me it is the excitement of participating in such an iconic race, being around 1000's of other like minded people, and seeing the streets lined with supporters cheering us on. So when I go out and do my training I visualise myself in New York with wall to wall people lining the streets and this spurs me on and reminds me that the whole event for me is about having fun - I can then make sure that I am having fun while I train too.

Now go and write down your internal motivation and then remind yourself of this when you are out pounding the pavement!  Have fun with it and please email and share with me if you like!

"Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

- George S. Patton, U.S. Army General, 1912 Olympian

EXERCISE FOR HEALTHY FEET

Don't forget to give your feet the attention they deserve...

Exercising your feet on a regular basis not only improves overall foot health, but may also reduce your risk for injury. Walking is the best overall foot exercise. When you walk, you put your foot through its full range of motion, from the time your heel hits the ground until you lift off with your toes. Moreover, walking is one of the best forms of exercise for your entire body. It improves your cardiovascular health and can help your circulation, muscle tone, and mood.

GUEST OF THE WEEK

Every week I meet so many amazing and inspiring women so I want to give you the opportunity to meet some of the other special women in my life and how they can help benefit your life too....

For all you coffee fans here is the skinny on how many calories a coffee will set you back....

Nicky who is a client at Fitness Fix has passed on some great info on the calories in your favourite cup of coffee!

Nicky's husband Chris is the owner of Altura Cafe. Chris has been campaigning for ages to get a 6oz sized takeaway coffee cup.The main reason is that the perfect balance of coffee to milk is kept maintained but there are also some benefits to the waist line.

The average take away coffee cup is larger than drinking your coffee at the cafe and these extra calories do add up.

Trim Latte approx  76 calories

Flat white approx 60 calories

New Flat white cup 100mls milk (nearly half that of a latte!) 40 calories

Note that the calories are approximate only as each cafe varies how much milk they use.

So if you want to try the new 6oz takeaway coffee then I suggest you head to Altura cafe and grab yourself one as they are the only ones with this size cup at present.
