THIS WEEK AT FITNESS FIX

Good things come to those who wait!

I have been working on my website and my special report "The 5 secrets to a great looking body for women with busy lives"  I am happy to announce that my book has been printed and the new website has lifted off into cyber space. If you would like a copy of my report (either for yourself or a friend) then click the link below to view my website and register for your copy of the book.  I would love your feedback on the website and any suggestions that you may have to make your experience as seamless as possible.

GOURMET HIKING IN THE DOLOMITES

If you love combining hiking, exploring the Alps of Italy and love delicious food then this might be of interest to you...

The gourmet hiker is in for special lunchtime treats in the Dolomites, where top chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants have created dishes using traditional ingredients for eight alpine rifugi or mountain huts .  It's all part of the "In Vetta con Gusto"- Peaks of Gastronomy - initiative that makes hiking in the dolomites with lunch at a mountain hut a truly sublime experience.  This could be a great goal for the Fitness Fix Walking Group if anyone is keen!!

WHY STRENGTH TRAIN?

The answer is that you can't afford not too!

Research has shown that strengthening exercises are both safe and effective for women and men of all ages, including those who are not in perfect health. Strength training can help reduce the symptoms of numerous diseases and chronic conditions, among them:Osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, obesity, back pain, depression.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY

As many of you know as a result of running the Auckland 1/2 marathon in 2011 I became aware of an existing heart condition this lead to having a pace maker fitted.

The great news is that now I have my pacemaker fitted I can get back out doing what I love... keeping fit and healthy and inspiring others to do the same.... I have inspired 20 others so far to join my team and I am just so thrilled that so many of you have stepped up to the challenge.

I am excited that I not only get to run the Auckland 1/2 marathon this year; I also get to support the NZ Heart Foundation who without them I wouldn't have this opportunity today.

So, help me as I join the race to beat heart disease.

I've signed up as a Heart Racer to raise money to support the Heart Foundation. By donating through my webpage you will be helping the Heart Foundation continue its vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources. Fitness Fix Heartracer Fundraising Page

I'll do all the hard work (train for and complete the event), but I really need you to make a difference to the hearts of New Zealanders.

How you can help...

I am looking for sponsorship for our team including branded tee shirts for the Fitness Fix heart racer team members. (20-30) in total. If anyone is interested in supplying these branded tee shirts I would love to hear from you. And of course there is the opportunity for you to have your branding on the tee shirts.

There is also an opportunity to provide light refreshments for the team at the finish line, so that we can celebrate in everyone's success.

I am also looking for volunteers to help run the finish line marquee & be there to welcome everyone as they make their way across the line and into the marquee.

For all enquires please email me and I would be delighted to have your support!

It's not too late to join the Fitness Fix Team

If you are going to register then make sure that you join my Fitness Fix Team... entry details are on my website so please click the link below to find out how you can join!

Congratulations to Rebecca Stringer. Rebecca underwent surgery last year and now she is bouncing back and feeling the best that she has in a long time.  It really shows Rebecca! You  are looking great and we can see that you are putting in lots of effort both with your exercise and your nutrition!

FARRO, ROASTED PUMPKIN & RED ONION SALAD

I loved the look of this pumpkin and red onion salad in the May issue of cuisine magazine. It uses a grain called Farro, but if you can't find this you can substitute it for brown rice.

This would make a great lunch that you could prepare ahead of time, or served with your choice of protein for a wholesome dinner.

BEAT THE WINTER BLUES WITH VITAMINS & MINERALS

Are you ready for cold and flu season? If you want to help avoid being sick and feeling like you have to go to the doctor to get antibiotics and other drugs, now is the time to be thinking about prevention! This week we are looking at the benefits of vitamin D....

Vitamin D
We get most of our vitamins from our food and drink, but much of our supply of vitamin D comes from our exposure to sunlight. During winter, not only do we see less sunshine, and even when the sun is out, many of us are stuck in our offices or workplaces, but when we do venture outside, our skin is covered up because of the low temperatures.

Vitamin D deficiency may increase the risk of developing osteoporosis and that is why taking a vitamin D supplement can be beneficial for your health.

A simple blood test is all that is required to determine your levels which you should check annually

Please email me if you would like to order your winter vitamins.
