TRAMPING IN THE KAIMAI'S
I hope that you had a fantastic Easter and were able to get out and enjoy the amazing weather.
I was fortunate to get away to Te Aroha and do some exploring in the Kaimai's. There is such a vast network of walking tracks infact there are 22 different weekend tramps that you can choose from. And there is a walk to suit all fitness levels and ability. So if you are looking to get away for a few days then I would highly recommend getting down to the Kaimai's to do some exploring & it is less than 2 hours away. Either Te Aroha or Matamata make a great base for any of these walks.
3 walks that I would highly recommend ...
Mt Te Aroha Summit,
This track is literally a 1km climb! and takes you to the highest point in the mountain range, it offers magnificent views & the lure of the hot spa afterwards is enough to entice anyone back down the mountain.

The Waiorongomai Valley has a number of great walks, you can choose 1-2 hour walks or combine several for a full and challenging day walk.
The Wairere Falls were definitely a highlight, it wasn't the pumping water from the falls that took my breath away but the track weaves it's way up a path of moss covered rocks and passes through a grove of nikau, and puriri before leading steeply up a cliff to the first lookout platform that offers spectacular views from the base of the falls. Once you reach the top of the falls you have a magnificent view looking back over the valley and the Waikato Plains. You need to allow about 3 hours return for this walk.
