Last weeks newsletter really struck a chord with a few of you and I received lots of emails which was fantastic. It is great to see that so many of you get the principal of losing body fat while maintaining lean muscle & what is more you are implementing these techniques into your daily lives!
Today I have the great news of sharing with you that exercise is all about quality and not quantity.
Because if you participate in exercise that demands a long duration it will demand more energy... sounds like that is what you should do if you want to burn those extra calories right? But what happens is that your body turns to using carbs (sugar) as it's main energy source. The longer & more demanding the exercise the quicker your body needs to make up for the energy deficit, which is why your body relies on the quickest energy source.. carbs.
In short performing short intense exercise creates a large energy deficit in a short amount of time, and because your body doesn't need more energy to sustain the activity it enables your body to use fat to make up the energy deficit created, instead of having to rely on carbs for a quick refill.
So by keeping your workouts short and intense. No more than 20-30 minutes in duration
you are not only going to be able to keep this up long term and make it part of your lifestyle but you will also be working to transform your body. Doing compound exercise is key, stimulating as many muscles as you can at one time, just like we do in our group fitness circuit classes.
Short and sweet and results focused and we are far more likely to stick to it!
