Greetings!

LEAN MUSCLE MASS

I thought it was a timely to remind you about what fat loss really means in terms of the numbers on the scales...

Just remember that getting a lean and fit physique has more to do with losing body fat while maintaining (or gaining) lean muscle mass than losing weight.

For women who have a low body fat % of around 21-24%, weight loss becomes somewhat irrelevant. You can lose fat and gain lean muscle at the same rate so your body weight actually doesn't change much at all, while still dramatically improving your physique.  Have you ever worn a pair of jeans and they feel tight or loose but you are still the exact same weight? This is because muscle is heavier than fat and so when you have more lean muscle you could weigh the same on the scales but be a lot leaner looking and therefore your clothes fit better.

And the best way to increase your lean muscle mass is by doing compound movements using a challenging load... just like we do in our strength training sessions at Fitness Fix.

So it might be time for you to stop focusing on just losing weight. Although weight loss is part of the process (especially for those who are overweight), it should never be done while sacrificing your lean muscle mass.

If you want to know more about the benefits of strength training then please chat to Patricia or myself.

YOUR BODY & WATER

Your body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water. Blood is mostly water, and your muscles, lungs, and brain all contain a lot of water. You need water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to your organs and tissues. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and protects your joints and organs.

The Fitness Fix stars this week are Maree, Pam, Lynda and Sharon for all competing in the Coatesville Classic on Sunday... it sounds like you all had a great time.

Well done to Catherine, Zona, Diane & Lucy for all competing in the Round the Bays with the other 70,000 people you all looked so fresh at the end & full of smiles!

It is great to see these ladies achieving their dreams by simply setting a goal and then doing the planned training.

If you are looking for a fitness goal and not sure what you would like to do... email me sally@fitnessfix.co.nz and I would love to help you find your own meaningful goal.
