Interim General Manager's Update
I hope this newsletter finds you well. The close of summer brings the start of some exciting events for Neighborhood Councils in the upcoming months. The Neighborhood Council elections pick up again on Saturday, September 8th with Region 2 - the North West Valley where 6 Neighborhood Councils are having contested elections. After September 8th we will have elections every week until the end of October when we'll take a break for the national elections before ending with the final region on November 15th. If you haven't signed up to be a volunteer poll worker, please do today so we can successfully administer your elections! I had a lot of productive meetings this week. I met with the Controller's Office and was delighted by the strong support Wendy and her staff has for the Neighborhood Council Funding Program. We discussed a lot of ideas about how to make the process more streamlined and also more transparent for the Councils, which I will incorporate into a proposal for your consideration next month. I met with Councilmember Parks, and he is greatly in favor of eliminating any stumbling blocks for Neighborhood Councils so Board members can focus on their mission and not on getting their demand warrant paid on time. My weekly meeting with our Deputy Mayor, Torie Osborn, who is just so enthusiastic in her support (take a moment to read about her below), makes me really look forward to the upcoming year for the Neighborhood Council system. I think some awesome changes are on the horizon, and I'm looking forward to sharing them with you. Have a great Labor Day weekend! Best, Grayce Liu, Interim General Manager Department of Neighborhood Empowerment Empower Yourself. Empower Your Community. Empower LA.
