General Manager's Weekly Update

The countdown continues - 7 more work days left of my reign as the supreme neighborhood empowerer for the City!  For my last day at work on August 4th (on a Saturday of course), I plan on visiting the polling locations for our first regional elections in the Northwest Valley and kicking off the City's very first truly grassroots participatory elections.

Education and Neighborhoods Committee

At yesterday's committee meeting, Councilmember Parks recommended that the amounts suggested in the CAO's report as possible s/election costs for Neighborhood Councils to contribute be considered if the Department goes over the budgeted $550k for elections.  The suggested contributions are $1550 for an election and $475 for a selection.

Website Quick Hits

This past week EmpowerLA had over 6000 visitors to the website and we are now reaching an average of 1000 hits per weekday!

Candidates from all regions are filing via the online candidate filing form, where they can submit their candidate statement as well as their photos with one click. When the candidates file their form to run for the board, they also receive a copy of the form in their inbox.

Volunteer Poll Workers are filing online daily. Be sure to sign up as well and get your friends involved too.

The top three (3) sources for EmpowerLA visitors were Google Searches, Facebook referrals and emails, in that order. Fourth is Council websites. Be sure to add the EmpowerLA buttons to your site. If you didn't get it, talk to your Independent Election Administrator to resend it to you.

Treasurer Training

The Department will be conducting monthly trainings for new Treasurers.  The next training is on Thursday, August 2nd from 6 to 9 pm at our downtown office in City Hall - 20th floor.  You MUST RSVP at least 24 hours in advance in order to clear security into the building.  Please rsvp to Betty Wong Oyama ([email protected]) or Barry Stone ([email protected]).

Sincerely,
